Thanks for the hodograph info Scott. I hunt extremely trashy parks frequently and the steel bottle caps drive me crazy. The FBS machine are great with them but I know there are alot of things i miss in the null.

I know the steel bottlecaps have given some issues....not for me as much. However that may be due to the fact Inever hunt areas where newer caps are found.

All I can say is use the S algorythm if you have it.....and sweep slow and completely off the target before trying another swing. It is meant to be a one sweep and analyze thing in SSF mode I think it is. It is not meant to hunt in with continous swings. Bottlecaps like to give a slight hook pull at the bottom of the graph before it then draws a nice line to the right. Worked well for me but honestly I do not hunt parks.

The better trick was to use the RTM mode which was all metal tone id mode. Sweep but@ss slow coming on to the target and just slowly stab at the very edge of the target...if it is a coin it will have almost no iron tone in RTM mode whereas a steel cap will have a nice iron growl all the way around before going high tone. RTM is one of the best modes in the Sorex and Signum IMHO...but takes a lot to get used to.

Good info. I will try it out tomorrow. Thank you.

Took the Sorex out today for about 45 minutes after work today and tried to apply what you (scott) said about identifying bottle caps. Will definitely need more time to get a grasp on it. Nothing distinctive or consistent in the hodograph really pops out at me. It is a very deep, fast, sensitive detector. Quite impressive. Would be great in an environment with less trash. Tricky to even find a clear spot to ground balance in my park. Will give it a few more weeks to see if I can begin to call the targets before digging. Otherwise, on to the next. With my time constraints, I don't quite have the luxury of being a dig it all except ferous hunter. Time will tell. Also, if anyone knows of any other beneficial videos in english besides the couple from Gary's, please direct me to them. Thanks.

Takes more than 45 minutes to get the hang of an AKA. First off don't even pay to much attention to the Hodograph, listen to the tones and watch the ID numbers and dig a whole bunch of targets to get a feel for whats it is telling you. If you dig alot of pull tabs for instance or foil, keep a mental note of the numbers, then start looking at the Hodo. Also spend some time bench testing coins and trash targets to see how they ID. You can create a rough chart that will help you determine what numbers to dig or not. In some of my hunts if I get a minus number bounce to a similar high positive number as you sweep across the target. Time to dig, it could be one of our Canadian $1 or $2 coins on edge and draws a weird shape on the Hodo.

Took me about 6 hours to start getting the hang of the Berkut using a preset program with 10 tones. It was a rough start for me as well. I started with the 6x10 14khz coil, then got the 6" 14khz coil from Scott. That works much better in trashy areas. Just rec'd a 6" 7khz Sorex coil, supposed to be the ticket for mineralized soils some say you find less small foil with it. Been out a couple times with it. In my area I think I like the 14 khz better, not highly mineralized so i don't see any benefit to its use here. The Brits love the 7 khz coils.

Thanks Sven. Will apply the methods you mentioned. Probably won't be able to get back out again until next week. The coil on it currently is the 7 kHz 6x10. I have two other coils for it as well, 14 kHz 6x10 and 7 kHz 9.5 x 12.5. I will keep my eyes peeled for a good deal on a used 6". My intended targets are primarily jewelry and secondarily non zinc coinage. I will also dig into the manual again and start disecting and ingesting the information as time permits. Thanks again Scott and Sven.

The AKA machines are kind of like going to an Explorer when they first came out.....not totally foreign to use but we quickly found out it was going to take time to really get a handle on the finer nuances of the display. Same with the AKA machines.

But I can see where a person may not want to have to invest that amount of time.....I know sometimes I want to have a machine with a shorter learning curve as compared to some of my other machines.

I will say that again steel bottlecaps can be challenging at times. It is not the machine to try and learn, as a new user, in dense trash. Best to use it in areas with little trash at first so you know what targets sound like on their own first. Then move into heavy stuff. I used mine in just the nastiest of trash once i learned it....I have picked out canadian fishscales ( half dimes) in heavy iron nails as well as many small buttons mixed right in with iron nails etc. But not at first....no way.

I received an email from him today asking which US forum would be best to sponsor on. He was trying at first to go to TNET but they did not want him since the AKA website was not in all english. Well good...not a fan of that forum setup anyway.

I am not saying for sure he will be able to sponsor here as it depeends on cost etc etc. But maybe we can get him to come in here and talk a bit. Been trying to tell him to get Victor the lead engineer to participate a little here also and not just on Garys UK forum if they want more US sales. But we will see.

I can hope at least.

he is working on an englsih website

Hello everybody and thanks, that you remember AKA and me in this case!
Yes,AKA is really interested in all discussions concerning detectors produced by the factory.
And we appreciate all reviews and all opinions given to our machines.
Concerning personally me,I would support any discussions opened and continued here if there are members who want the same.It does not mean, that AKA is participating on some other foreign forum because AKA supports only those ones.No.The matter is,that on some of them, there are always new posts from different users saying about positives and negatives when detectors run and always it could be discussed there with the maximum intelligent manner.
If we could find a possibility may be really to become one of sponsors on this great forum too,we would do the same with pleasure.

Nice to see you back, I think Findmall is one of the best sparky forums out there...................

Hi Jim,
thanks for your interest.I am not sure if we can discuss any deals openly here due to the rules.
Please, wait a little more time before I could settle this point with the staff of the forum.

You can contact Igor directly thru ebay if you have an account. His user ID garyman2008

PM'd you approx pricing to give you an idea. And if you are able to use some one else's email....... PM'd you Igors email address.
Think Igor has to make a certain number of posts before he is able to use the forums PM function.
