Alcohol and the frequent drinker

Well, after going through quite a bit of medical visits and searching for answers, I've settled in on a diagnosis of myself. I started drinking around 13 years of age, and liked the effects that it gave. I have had some traumatic physical and emotional scars over the years, and used drink to escape the pain. Quitting was easy(too easy). I'm 48 now, and never had a DUI, or legal problems from drink. I was in a thrift store last week after leaving the HP from the CT scan, and there was a hard-back book from AA titled "12 steps and 12 traditions", which is supposed to be the Bible of AA. 99cents well spent! Reading it at work yesterday was "scary". I'm a textbook case, it appears! Depression, lack of confidence, and low self-esteem are residual effects of stopping long-term drink. Lots of folks(including myself) have quit for a few days to a week, just to convince ourselves that we didn't have a problem. After a month or so goes by without it, the demons start to attack. 2 months, and you're really hurting. 3 months, and you don't know why you're still depressed...God help any of you on here that are in this situation. I hope none of you are. I don't miss the drink, but I want my sanity back. I keep praying about it, and I'm going to see a 82-year old Christian counselor today, before going to work. I sure hope that her and I will "bond" on this issue. Now, I have to deal with the issues that the drink was "numbing". Sad part is, I'm not quite sure what they may be, but I have an idea...That's a start......Rick

Rick, I have to say. I have been there and done that. I have not drank a drop since Dec. 1989. And believe me, I don't miss it(the drinking) or all that comes along with it. Keep your head up high and the good Lord will guide you through this. A person can not go no faster than just one day at a time. And time in my books is all we have sometime. And I had decided to make the best of my time(sober). My hat goes off to you Rick for standing up and taking control of the situation. You "WILL" be proud of yourself when you get to where you want to be. Stand Proud and keep up the Good work:super:. Joe

Thanks, Joe. Your reply really gives me extra hope!!

My meeting with the Counselor went good today. She's seen alot in her 82 years, so I asked her before I left to look at me and tell me what she saw in me, because I wasn't capable of discerning myself the way she probably could. She said "no doubt" that I had recently been saved, and she could see how humble I was. Keep in mind that, 6 months ago, I rarely got emotional about anything, and cared mostly for my own desires and pleasures. What a change!!!! Thank y'all for the replies............:please:

God Bless you, tesoronut! You are on the way to a great start with the Lord and He will see you through all the trials and sorrows until the end when you are caught up to Jesus into the air! Take one step at a time and one day at a time! No one knows if there will be a tomorrow and the past is history to be lived no more....sooo live life serving and loving others and helping them to overcome their many problems when you can. God will lead and guide you to those who need your help and give you the encouragement to do it! Just keep praying and I am praying for you, also, that what God has done in you He will finish, as He is the author and finisher of our faith! Amen! Always remember we are your new friends and we love you in Jesus' precious, holy name! God Bless! Betty

I am praying for you, Rick. I'm sure that what you are going through must be absolutely miserable and I wish I could fix it for you. I will definitely be praying.

God Bless you, Terri! I also hope that you receive abundant Blessings for whatever situations you may need them for! You are a GREAT friend!! Thanks for being you...I've got to work evening today...2 until 9 or so....Tractor ran out of gas down by the pond, so I have to carry a can down there to get it. Funny how things always run out of gas when you are as FAR away from the house as you plan to go......Ever notice that???
