If I buy a 12ga. shotgun that will take a 2 3/4 or 3 inch shell what are the main differences in shells besides over all length? It seems to me that if I use the 2 3/4 inch shells that I'll be able to get more in the tube (maybe 1 more) than if I use the 3 inch shells? The shotgun I am looking at has an extended tube with a 7 + 1 capacity. Is it that simple or am I missing something? Thanks.

If by chance you are buying the shotgun for hunting purposes you might check local regulations as to how many rounds it can hold legally. In Illinois you have to have the plug in the gun and can't hold more than 3 rounds total for hunting......and DNR will check for the plug being installed.
Since the gun has a 7 round mag I would guess it is going to be a defense weapon for around the house.

I wouldn't use a 3" shell unless I was duck or goose hunting. A high brass 2 3/4 shell with a slug will bring down a deer.
