Aloha Excalibur o-ring replacement help

Aloha does anyone know how to go about replacing the small rubber o-ring on top of the pin point/disc pot? Can I just buy an o-ring and replace it or do I have to open up the detector to replace it? My Excalibur 800 is out of warranty so if it

Look at my post in the modification forum this may help. I replaced the o-rings on one and you have to completely pull it apart as the shafts that the knobs are on have a clip that keeps them from being pulled out the top. It's really not that hard. You will also be able to clean the other o-rings and reseal your unit. Also I have posted at this site with more detail: http://www dot treasurequestxlt dot com/community/showthread.php?t=44017 (replace the spaces and " dot " with a period ".")
Good Luck,

Aloha I removed the cap on the headphone side and I see the c-clip holding on to the post. How do I remove the clip and how do I replace it. Do I need to buy a special tool to do the job. I know I can remove the c-clip, but it looks hard to put it back. Please let me know if there is an easy way to do the job. Here is a pic. Thanks for the info, islandchips

Islandchips,
You have to remove the circuitboard and the knob then push the shaft into the tube (should not have to remove the c-clip, not sure because I did this procedure to the older one with the sword and there are no c-clips). Reverse the order once you replace the o-ring. You should go ahead and lube all of them while you have it apart. Get the silicone grease from a dive shop there in Hawaii or a local hardware store in the plumbing section. Make sure that when you put the circuitboard back in that all of the shafts are centered and be gentle and patient it may take more than one try. Make sure that there is no lint or dust on any of the o-rings after applying the grease and inspect the tube section to see that each of the o-rings are seated properly (the o-ring will have a shiny appearance all the way around when seated properly against the tube). I hear treasure calling me and if you have any questions I'll post later today. Good luck! Remember Patience!

PM won't go thur, here is your answer to your question..You really don't need to remove the c-clip....but.....remove the board....knobs and all removed from the shafts, push each hard, once past the top O-Ring will go easy..Just Like Skinard said.....to remove c clip, small screw driver, flathead, and circlip pliers, that I just broke the other day removing the clip pictured. They were perfect, fit right in the grove. Flat head screw driver will fit in one of the small openings on the back side of the c-clip when you squeeze the criclip pliers opening the c-clip..Flathead in the opening.....pops right off.........Forgot one more thing, You need a good pair of 3,50 glasses to make it easier. And the long nose pliers to set them back in place once finished. Good Luck...let me know if you got this...............Joe

Just ad a little tip, put your thumb on the place you put the screwdriver in as these things tend to take off in whatever direction they decide once past the half way and are a bugger to find afterwards
