always bring enough shovel.....:rage:

I stopped by a private property I just got permission to hunt and failed to bring a good enough shovel...I only had a hand held digging tool. The field was pretty quiet and not tooooo trashy and I found multiple deep targets but gave up digging because the soil had lots of clay and rocks and I wasn't finding them in the top 6-8".....my hand really hurts today!

The property has some heavy use in the late 1800s and is just a field now....so my expectations are pretty high! I wonder if there was perhaps some fill added somewhere along the way but i'll see that better once I dig deeper.

lesson learned...."always bring enough shovel!" Or maybe "don't bring a trowel to a shovel fight"

:rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage: :rage:

really rather disappointed that i boneheadedly forgot to bring my big shovel....

I agree Greg, a relic shovel always travels with me for field hunting........... you just never know.

I understand where you're coming from. I too only have a hand held shovel and when I went with Larry to field hunt, it wasn't too much fun. HH, Nancy
