American coins, whats the big deal?

American coins, whats the big deal?..:poke:................ I guess thats what irked me a little....... Sorry for the "not" understanding your question. Sometimes it's hard to post a message and get the true meaning conveyed.

Sometimes there's implied meaning in a post too !. Have a nice day.Enjoy your quest for old coins, and if you feel like sharing..please post up some of your great finds. I would love to see some of them for sure.

I have a serious question for you..... How in the world do you detect with all those snakes we Americans hear about that you have??... I think I might just give up the hobby if there are as many poison snakes as we are shown on some of our TV Programs about your beautiful Country. The programs make it seem like they are everywhere. As you can garner from my question. I am not a "BIG" Snake fan.. LOL..

Its not true about the snakes, on my little farm i've only seen about 8 deadly brown snakes in the last 5 years, and half of them were cute little babies! Oh, and it's illegal to kill them as well !
As soon as I can work out how to upload photos I will. ooroo.

If I can say one last thing on the meaning of my question, when we read your posts, we, foreigners, don't know why you get excited, it wouldn't kill ya to just say, taking into account foreign readers, what's the big deal about that coin, we just want to know, ie, is it rare, is it expensive, is it the holy grail , what the hell is it. Thats it, I wont bother you about this subject again. Cheers

Well done Elton. At least you tried. More than once even
You can lead a horse to water, you can't make him drink.

even though it doesn't attack on purpose. One slip of your hand in the wrong place and your in trouble.

It might make good television , but snakes are rarely seen. And as far as being the deadliest, your rattlesnakes will kill you just as dead.

So I will do it here. We like to find old coins as a hobby. Sure it would be great to find a rare coin. Usually that doesn't happen though. Our history is a fraction of yours.. a little over two hundred years only. So a coin dating in the 1800's and the rare 1700's feels like we hit the jackpot..Were all avid passionate detectorists. This forum lets us share and learn .and your right it is infectious to all of us......... Like I said I would love to see some of your finds..if you get the time..Shoot I still get excited finding the right Wheat cent, Indian Head Pennies and any Silver coin I'm lucky enough to find. To me and many others..it is the "I found it value".........I hope that expresses it better.

Sounded like they were everywhere..even in the cities..Thanks for the reply..

I thought your country had the longer history. Australia was discovered by the English in 1770 - 240 years ago, where yours was discovered in 1492 correct? Your country should have about 500 years of dropped thingies. What's the oldest coin you've found? Mines an 1817 English sixpence I found with my 9 year old neice, talk about excited, not worth a brass razoo but you should has seen the smile on her face.

Columbus Discovered the Americas in 1492. North America was here.Populated by American Indians. Ruled by others after that.. When I refer to "My Country" I am refering from 1776.. To present day USA.........We had no coins of our own till after that date.........So to us a late (United States of America) 1700 coin, or even an early 1800's coin is OLD..........

My Oldest is a small 1796 coin (Silver) draped bust. very poor condition.

Our country too was occupied for the last 50,000 years by Aborigines , and when I said its 240 years old I meant white occupation.

Good Post. Elton we are not supposed to kill snakes in TN. either. So much for that BS. We have 1 dollar coins but I myself don't find many not even in change. I would like to go to Australia sometimes and hunt for gold but then again I do OK on our coastlines. I remember some Australian soldiers over in Vietnam. All of them were big heavy bearded guys. Back to the topic. Over the years I mostly hunt coins and get suprised sometime with a good old find. HH :minelab:

Thanks for the update, but are they worth anything?

Yes...They are worth 1 cent, 5 cents and 10 cents, respectively.

100 cents equals a dollar, so if we choose to, we can exchange these coins for products and services.

When I dig a penny I just think of it as "1 penny closer to a million dollars!"

So they do have worth.

Also...every coin I dig represents an object I located and dug that was BURIED AND HIDDEN IN THE GROUND!!!!

This still amazes me...probably always will.

After 8 months in this hobby, I have dug almost $100 worth...but I am not cashing them in...yet.

I am having too much fun looking at them, holding them, running them through my hands and playing with them.

MUAHAHAHAHAHA...(my precious!)

HH
