This show is really bad for us. They have zero respect. They dig like idiots, throw junk finds into the bushes, destroy property, and make detectorists look like buffoons. Here are some things to think about:
1. "American Savage" is not the business they make it look like.
2. They operate from home, their fake "headquarters" is the background of J.S. Mosby Civil War Antiques owned by Steve Sylvia
3. His website all about exposing fake relics is http://www.savage-station.com looks like he is familiar with faking things, especially being a "pro wrestler"
4. Digging up pristine and unrealistic things that don't make sense
5. Ric was just asked to stop writing his column for American Digger Magazine (no relation to the reality show of the same name), the magazine wanted no ties to him
6. In the Chicago episode, the "cops" that show up, freak out, and threaten to arrest Ric and his crew--actually the cast of the reality show "Paranormal Cops"
7. Ric is a dumbass
8. Selling the "recovered relics" for ridiculously inflated prices
9. The vast majority of people Ric approaches seem to get bad vibes from him and ask him to get lost
10.Asking for an insulting 80/20 financial split
11.Yelling "BOOM BABY!!!" and causing a scene
12.I need to stop, this list could go on forever...
I think the number 1 thing that bothers me is the blatant disregard four our (the viewers) intelligence. These "finds" are obviously fake. Here are two examples:
Ric gets permission to search what was once an ice cream parlour, with possible ties to organized crime in the 20's. He proceeds to find exactly what he needs to make a good episode. He found a baby bathtub for making alcohol, a speakeasy era belt coin changer, a mini roulette wheel for illegal gambling, a dagger with knuckles on it (say, look here, you talkin' to me pal?) and a ledger with info to tie it all together. Oh, and the safe that held the 90 year old ledger was behind a wall that was only maybe 25 years old.
How about in Florida...in one yard they find all the makings of a pirate movie. A Spanish blade, a 'thunder mug' cannon, a 150 year old explosive, a colonial era crucifix, and a large "splash" (melted Spanish gold coins) of SOLID GOLD.
I am already sick of hearing people in my area say things like "You detect eh? Like those guys on American diggers?". I am nothing like those guys.
P.S. here is Ric's email address. He posted it, looking for feedback. Feel free to email him and let him know what a great job he is doing!
