An hour of scrubbing to clean one V Nickel, but worth it.

Just wanted to show what a LOT of scrubbing with a Green Scrubby can do for a really toasted V Nickel. When I first pulled this from the ground (see picture) it was terrible, and I couldn't get a date. Now, after scrubbing this under warm water with a green scrub pad, I can see that it's a 1908 Liberty V Nickel. Still not the prettiest of coins, but enough that I'm happy.

I tumble the toasted ones - saves a LOT of wear and tear on the fingers -

Aquarium gravel, water (fo course), salt, white vinegar, fine tumble powder.

They come our brite and shiny.

I've been thinking about getting a tumbler. After yesterday I think I'll check eBay for one today and see how the other ones come out. I just wanna get a date. Doesn't have to be purty. Just like to know when the coins were minted.

Check Harbor Freight - they have tumblers there at a reasonable price.

The tumbler will get all the crud off and give you a clear date

On toasty nickels a SOS pad works wonders, gets you details and does not take that long to do.

Get an air compressor and go to harbor freight and get their air scribe pen. Use baking soda and it will clean up old nickels in minutes.
