Received a email from Andy today. Looks like his book will be available very soon. Said he had a few issues with the printer but things are a go now. Look for more info in the very near future.
I look forward to reading it, I know he has put a lot of effort into its production.

Bought it once from Richard but it was a no show and Richard refunded my money.

I'll wait till it's really there this time...

I have his ithers so this ought to be informative as well. I think Minelab ought to make a deal and include one with every purchase as a matter of course...

Hi Ed,
I think it is really close. I agree ML would be smart to include it!

Thanks for the update. I was wondering when it would be out.

With the number of books I have done and had reprinted, I figured that this would be a simple project to bring to completion once the writing part was dine . . . . well all I can say is that I could write a book on what went wrong in the process . . .

But, the book is FINALLY back from the printers and has started shipping. I've already sent several copies to people that provided input in the forms of tips, suggestions, techniques and find photos . . . . a few dealers have requested their stock and that went out today to several of them so you should start seeing them on the shelves. Let me know if you don't or have a dealer that has been looking for them.

The feedback from those that looked it over in the drafting stage has been positive . . . . . while the Quattro and Safari are easier to use than the Explorer and E-Trac, there are some tips and tricks that can ensure you find more at the end of the day and hopefully the new books provides that information for readers.

Thanks again to all of you that provided input . . . . . . I feel it really made the book more useful and helpful to all that pick up a copy.

Bunky, thanks for the update. If no book, Minelab should consider a dvd be included.

I've said many times before, I think that Andy's books are great, but a DVD on the Safari, from Minelab or a second party is an excellent idea. I'd buy one

Over the years - going back to the mid-90's with the two books I did on the Sovereign - Minelab has never jumped on the "provide the customer information on how to actually use their products" bandwagon. The new management team has taken the position that my books are not needed for any of their machines and have stated that they will not stock them since their is no need to do so . . . . odd position but as they say, it is what it is.

A DVD was produced by the MLO team a few years ago on the Explorer with Minelab funds covering the production; however, the result has received mixed reviews. Much like the manual that comes with the detectors, spending time explaining how to assemble the detector adds little value and covers points that even a newbie has mastered. There is no plan to produce one for the Quattro or Safari based on what I have heard from people inside the Minelab organization.

I wrote the books for several reasons including 1) I really enjoy writing about technical subjects in a way that everyone can understand (do that in my day job); 2) wanting to help users get the most out of detectors that I was on the development team for and picked up some tips and tricks along the way and 3) they fill a void that the manufacturer seemed unwilling or unable to fill themselves (most other manufacturers do have videos or additional books on their equipment).

The comment that a copy should come with every detector is not one that has not been voiced before and in fact several dealers I know actually do just that as it helps the customer get the most out of a high end detector in the shortest amount of time. This has even been raised at Minelab dealer conventions yet falls on deaf ears . . . . . and I guess the business view from their side is if they do not have to include anything else in the box to sell the detector then why adversely impact profit margins . . . . . heck, for what the Safari sells for, why is there no NiMH battery pack???

A copy of the new book was in fact sent to the management team of Minelab USA with no response - positive or negative received - which pretty much sums up their position on providing customers with additional information on how to actually use the equipment in the field rather than just a manual that covers the theoretical operation of the controls, how to assemble it and the technical specifications of each model . . . . they do not see a need to do so. That may be coming from the fact that the management does not come from the hobby and in fact do not use their own equipment which is different than other manufacturers where the founders and many of the staff are avid treasure hunters themselves. Minelab USA does have one member of their staff that is an active hunter but really only in the electronic prospecting arena which excludes the water and coin / relics models from interest.

I appreciate all of the input and feedback I receive in the development of my books which makes them far more useful than had they simply been one person's perspective. Photos of finds and tips from users around the world allow the books to help others from around the world. I have also been fortunate to have found a super graphic artist for cover work and a printer that gets a quality product out the door . . . . . hopefully my past books and those that are in the works will continue to help others find more and enjoy their time more in the field.

Thanks for the positive words . . . . .

Andy's new book 'The Minelab Quattro & Safari Handbook' is great. If you are contemplating
buying a new or used Safari or Quattro, you must read his book. You will be an expert in finding
good treasures after reading his book.
