Another E-Trac family member &question

Just got my E-Trac last week. Stepping up from an Ace 250. Used it this weekend. I think I'm going to really like it. I got Andy's book and read it quick. I still have to read it a few more times. There is one thing I can't figure out though. I don't understand the quick mask. I don't see what the purpose is, unless your hunting in all metal or using the quick mask to just knock out some iron. I'm starting out in the factory coin program and don't see why I would use the quick mask. There's another thing I don't understand. I keep reading how good it is at picking out coins next to iron, but then I keep reading you should buy the small coil. If it's so good at picking out coins why would you need the small coil?
Thanks

In my case, I use the QM while hunting to further explore the nulls that I get while in the coin mode. I hunt in a CW relic target rich environment and would not want to miss a good relic. I will say yesterday, I hunted in a custom mode that was wide open except I discrim out the bottom two fer lines (up to 34). Very good set up. I dug minieballs at 12+" all day as well as frag at 16+". This mode is very stable and quite. As far a s your second question, I would say using a small coil after hunting that site to death with your stock coil, would be a way of get a few more targets out of the site. There is no question a small coil has more seperation than a larger coil. I have two sites that I have hunted really good with may XS and Etrac. I will not go back there unless I have my 5" Excl coil on the Etrac. Good luck with the E-trac it is a great machine.

During my hunts I have on occasion got a high tone swinging the coil. The high tone will sound from lets say right to left but not left to right. I will open the quick mask to see if the numbers go up into the thirties. If it does I move on. If it is real bouncy below the thirties I will research it more from different angles. I have picked up a few coins this way. I hunt in the stock coin mode. TMAN...

Smaller coil will allow you to scan closer to modern concrete sidewalks with rebar and also get closer to steel poles used for fence and backstops. The quickmask mode will help on iffy coin signals to separate the junk signals that cause nulls.
