another new etrac first finds

bthom

New member
Got my etrac last night, went out for a first try at a little park I have been to many times... the etrac was as good as I hoped, easier than expected.. and it will only get better as I learn the thing. I had this little fantasy about finding a ring on the first hunt to.

awesome finds my friend. not bad at all for first time. i did good on my very first time out with the etrac but no ring. is that a gold wedding band are any of the coins old

No its just a little 925 ring.. The coins are soaking as I type, when I get home from work i'll have a close look.. though some are pretty old.... from before my country, New Zealand , had its own currency , I saw a 1912 English penny in there and a few other Australian pennys which are usually pretty old.. well old for this country.

i went out there and i live next to a creek and i was metal detecting with a discovery 1000 metal detector and i found a chain 14 k it was an awesome find

As good as your first outing was....makes me glad you're on a whole other continent!!!!! Just kidding!

Nice finds and thank you for the pictures. Looking forward to more of your finds!!

Fantastic!
Can you identify some of the coin finds?
What other metal detector(s) did you use before on that park?
Where are you located? It does not appear that the ground is frozen.
Happy Hunting

Ha... no we dont have problems with frozen ground in Auckland, New Zealand... I saw snow once as a kid when we went alot further south to a mountain...
The oldest coin amongst the lot I found was an English penny from 1907. What was interesting was of my finds only two were New Zealand pennys (we got pennys from 1940), all the rest were pre New Zealand currency, so I was working a pretty old layer. Back in 1900 Auckland only had about 20 000 people living in it, a small town really, today we have a million plus.

oh and before the etrac I had a fisher f4.. its how I paid for the etrac, in 11 months or so I found $3700nz plus a couple of gold rings and a whole bunch of silver. The f4 was pretty good, but man...the etrac after last night very first hunt , is in a different league.. cant wait to learn it.

Sorry, got dazzled by your finds and skipped right over the New Zealand information.
Our family went to Australia several years ago during X-Mas week and it was HOT.
Since your in the same hemisphere I imagine it might be the same.
Amazing the amount of money you found, I guess you could say your streets are paved in gold.
An open invitation, if you get my way during the winter, you are welcome to come to WNY and see the snow.
Happy Hunting.

Yes where lucky here in the antipodes... one and two dollar coins.. makes metal detecting a hobby where its hard not to be self funding. We dont have the history, which is the down side... but that means not alot of people take it up.. its only now, with our modern coinage being in circulation for 20 years, and modern discriminating detectors being so easy to use that its really easy to do well at it, make some cash and have fun.

nice ring! Plenty of quantity, too. Always a good thing statistically

Brett,
I always liked seeing your posts and videos on the Fisher forum, you always found interesting coins and lots of them. I am a new E-Trac owner as well and I love it, just can't get out because of the weather. I can't wait to see what you find with the E-Trac. Keep those good posts coming and best of luck. I hope you make some videos with the E-Trac. Randy

Brett,

Congrats on the finds. I too am a new E-Trac user. Have not gone out yet to try it out due to some medical issues. Cannot wait to get started. I hope I'm as successful as you were. Is there anything in New Zealand's history that would lend itself to relic hunting or do you mostly go after coins and jewelry?

Our history is so short really we have been a country for not much more than 150 years so your not going to find really old things.. our currency didnt start till 1933 with the silver coins and 1940 with the copper pennies, anything older is English or Australian. Finding English coins older than 1840 is the challenge, 1840 is when the "treaty of Waitangi" was sighed , and we became a sovereign state. My oldest coin to date is 1881 so not that old. The "big" find if you like here is a gold sovereign coin.. very rare... but I know a guy who bought a new at pro.. his first detector, then two weeks into it found one on the beach.. talk about beginners luck! ;)

I went out this morning for a bit.. lots of pennys.. my first silver coin and another ring (junk)

Excellent finds. Cant wait for the snow to melt so I can get out with my E-trac. I purchased mine late in the season last year and was amazed at the ease and accuracy.
Thank you for posting, it gives me something to look forward to.
