Another "No Coil Detected" anomaly with a happy ending?

So, a few months ago I had my 11" coil fail and Minelab quickly made it right but I hated having the CTX down while I waited on the new coil.....so..... I bought a new back up coil. ( I water hunt 5-6 days a week). The new coil came and I swapped out the coils so I could test its performance. Found it ran about 1 to 2 numbers lower in Auto +3 then the original coil yet I was still hitting fairly deep targets in the water. Yesterday, I decided to put the original coil back on the machine and when I did, I tested it and came up with the "No Coil Detected" message. I hadn't done anything other then remove the coil along with put the battery back on after charging. So I put the new coil back on and came up with the same message....how could two coils be bad suddenly.....so I put the 17" coil on and same results, "No Coil Detected".... I emailed Minelab of the problem and am waiting for Monday for an answer/RMA number.
Today's hunt I used one of my Excaliburs .... things clicked just like it was yesterday using it.

Well, while conversing with a friend back home, he commented that he had experienced the same problem with his CTX and he bumped/tapped the control section of the CTX with the heal of his hand. The machine then recognized the coil.... what did I have to lose? I put a coil back on the machine and closed the control section sharply.....all is now fine with the machine.

So, do you think this is still a problem? Loose connection/board?

I cringe at the thought of bending one of the tiny pins when changing coils out.... but love having the option to do so.

Almost sounds like a bad solder / bad connection type thing with the whack curing the issue.

Time will tell.

When it happened to mine was in first week of ownership. I have detected without issue for 1000+ hours over the last 1.5 years. I am glad that it too worked for you cliff. You know it hasn't slowed me down from finding deep stuff in hunted out parks!
