Another Weekend's Hunt. Another Weekend's Haul. Part:1.

James N.D.

New member
Well, I'm back with this weekend's haul once again. The finds weren't as plenty this time but I got enough to ease the urge of getting out for at least awhile. Next weekend, I will be attending a Hunt on Saturday of Pre-Buried Coins, so there will be twice the excitement for you to see since I will post both results from the Hunt and the Actual Finds found on Sunday. Now onto the story!

Tim and I ventured out in another random search for Silver and other Goodies on Saturday. We decided to hit a Fairgrounds since we had found some Keepers here before but the ground has been disturbed in the Parking Area's so it takes some time to land some of the Keepers since you never know if the Clad is going to be a Goody or Clad itself, thus digging everything. There is also a lot of Iron in this place next to the buildings but we did manage some Keepers anyways. We hunted the Fairgrounds for a long time, which was about 65% of our hunt time on Saturday. I finally went up to Tim and told him that I had enough of this place because there was so much New Clad that it was driving me nuts. The Goodies are there but it takes too much time for as many finds we were getting. Tim found a Barber Dime, a Rosie and I believe a Merc here. He also got a bunch of Wheats and a 1906 Indian Head. I got 1 Merc, 3 Rosie's, a bunch of Wheats, 3 different Tokens, and a pouch full of Clad.

We then hit the road and ventured through a Town that had a Park in it. We were about to leave but then decided to give it a shot since some of the trees did look old enough for at least Wheats and Silver. We stopped and got out and started detecting. As I was detecting, I seen 2 guys over in a neighboring yard chatting and looking towards me. Then one of them starts walking my way and I thought "oh great!, here we go" thinking he was going to say something about no detecting in the Park. I just started detecting and acted like I didn't know he was headed my way. He walked right up to me and was looking at my detector. I then removed my Headphones and said hello. He said hi and then pulls from his pocket 5 Good For Tokens and asked if I ever find them while detecting. I told him yeah, for a matter of fact I just got 3 of them so far today. He said "you did, can I see them". I told him sure. I pulled them out and he looked them over. He then started telling me that he is a Token Collector and wanted to buy 1 of the Tokens I had found but I told him I would rather hang onto it for now. He told me fine and then gave me and Tim his Card just in case we wanted to sell any of our finds. I figured if this guy has over 4,000 Tokens, that maybe I got a good Token since he didn't have it already so I better keep it until I find out more about it. We chatted with him for awhile and then decided to leave to a better spot. Tim found a Wheat Penny and a few Clad. I found the normal Clad and a Redline Hotwheels Toy Car dated 1975. So onto the next spot and the last of the day.

We ventured to another Park since there has been lots of Silver pulled from it in years past by me and others, but mainly by me. We started hunting and hunted this for about 2 Hours or so. Tim found a few Wheats and a Merc and I only found some Wheats. I couldn't believe that I couldn't land more than I did but that's how the game goes sometimes. So we headed home and called it a day.

Sunday, I decided to take Tim's advice and work more Boulevard's in Fargo. I did rather well considering how many people have detected them already (something like 5 other Detectorist's). But just like last Sunday, I started to find Wheats immediately at the beginning of the hunt. There was stretches that didn't yield much of anything while some spots had more than a Single Wheat. I hunted for a few hours and finished up the Boulevard I was at since I had worked the rest of it last weekend. I then decided to go somewhere else and get something to eat and take a break.

I drove by other Road Construction near this spot and looked at it 2 times. Then I decided to go get something to eat and head down to Lindenwood Park for a bit to see if I could find anything there. I stayed here for about an Hour or so and only found 2 Keepers along with some Clad. I found a 1933-d Wheatie sitting on Edge, sticking out of the dirt next to a tree which I thought was pretty cool. I also found a 1935 Canadian Penny near it. I then decided to go check out more Boulevards and I am glad I did.

I parked the Van across the street and started detecting. I noticed that there was hardly any Plugs at the beginning and started finding a couple Wheats here and there. I then dug a Buffalo Nickel. I would go for a bit and get a Wheatie or 2 and then more Clad. I got on one side of a block that had a lot of Plugs and was still finding an occasional Wheatie. I then got a Strong Signal about 1' away where they had removed the Curb at and it read 28 on Digital. It was about 6" Deep so I knew it was going to be another Keeper. I didn't even realize what I was about to dig, thinking just another Wheatie. I dug a Plug, and pulled it open. There, sitting in the Plug, I seen a Silver Edge and thought Quarter. I reached in and pulled it free to be surprised! Instead of a Silver Quarter it was a Walking Liberty Half Dollar. I couldn't believe that all them other Detectorist's had missed this Coin and I quickly put it in my Pouch so no-one nearby would see what I just dug. I didn't even look at the Date, just put it with the other Keepers. I started hunting and found a few more Wheats, a Tootsie Toy Car, and a Merc. I also dug a few Misc. stuff which will be shown. I called it a day at 7:00pm since I had to go mow the shop yard before it rained. I called Tim up and told him that I got his Half that he needed for Find Of The Month on Friday. He was shocked to hear that since that is a Big Coin to miss by a lot of Detectorist's. I told him since he was so generous last month in calling me when he found another Half and I didn't have one that I would return the favor. He got a good chuckle out of it. I told him where I got it and told him to try and work them since I won't get the time too. Before I forget! I also was looking through my Clad for certain Dates to check for Errors and found to my surprise a 1960-d Lincoln Memorial Penny that is the D Over D Variety. I tried to get a Pic of it but it's tough to see. It's plain as day though through a Loop and is also visible to the naked eye. So remember fellas, digging Clad can have it's Just Rewards Too! It books for $200.00 in MS-63 so I wonder how much it's worth? Now onto the Finds!

I got 6 Silver this time out. 1 Walking Liberty Half Dollar dated 1943-s, 2 Mercury Dimes dated 1928 and 1944, and 3 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946,1952-d, and 1963-d. I also found the 1960-D over D Variety Lincoln Cent on the Boulevard on Sunday. This was a great bonus to get since Clad is usually just that, Clad! I also found 1 Buffalo Nickel dated 1935-s and also have with it in the Pic the Canadian Penny dated 1935. The Tokens, Wheats, and Misc. will be posted shortly after Part:1. Hope you enjoyed this hunt and the finds and Good Luck and HH to you all. Thanks for looking! [attachment 101337 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 101357 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 101341 Dirty1960-doverdCent.jpg][attachment 101395 Cleaned1960-doverdCent.jpg][attachment 101359 DirtyBuffaloampCanadianCent.jpg][attachment 101362 CleanedBuffaloampCanadianCent.jpg]

Here's the Tokens that I found. I got 3 of them on Saturday's Hunt. The 1st one reads Machines Leased Or Sold on the Front and on the Back it reads Mills Vending Company Lacrosse, Wisconsin. The 2nd Token reads Good For 5c In Merchandise on the Front and on the Back reads K.J. Taralseth Co. Warren, Minn. The 3rd Token reads Good For 10c In Trade on the Front and on the Back reads Ole N. Nelson, Warren, Minn. I was surprised to dig 3 Tokens since they seem to be harder to find and can be worth more than your Normal Older Coins, so I was very pleased Saturday. For Wheat Pennies, I dug 16 on Saturday and 20 more on Sunday giving me a total of 36 more Wheats to the Collection. There were a couple Better Dates and unfortunately I nicked the 15-s but it would have only been worth $10 so I didn't loose much on that one. The other Better Dates were a 32 and a 33-d in High Grade. The Wheats were dated 12,15-s,(2)17,17-d,17-s,19,(2)25,25-d,27-d,(2)29,32,33-d,38,39,40-d,40-s,41,41-d,42-d,(3)44-d,(3)45-d,45-s,(2)46-d,48-d,54-d,(2)56-d, and 58-d. The Misc. will be posted in Part:3 due to limited space. Thanks again for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all on your adventures outdoors.[attachment 101400 DirtyTokens.jpg][attachment 101401 CleanedTokensFront.jpg][attachment 101402 CleanedTokensBack.jpg][attachment 101398 DirtyWheats.jpg][attachment 101399 CleanedWheats.jpg]

Here's the last of the finds from this last weekend's hunt. I found a Redline Hotwheels Toy Car that is dated 1975, a Tootsie Toy Plane (really neat looking), an Older Button, a Ford Key, a Cylinder Lock Key, a Glass Item (maybe a Glass Top to an Old Bottle:shrug:), an Aluminum Name Tag that reads Wyne, and an Old Shotgun Shell that reads 10 A U.M.C. Co. Bridge Port Conn. This was about 12" Deep next to a Sidewalk so it must be fairly Old due to it being entirely made of Metal. That does it for the finds and hope you have enjoyed them all. Thanks for looking once again and Good Luck and HH to you all when you get out next.[attachment 101403 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 101404 CleanedMisc..jpg]

What can I say. We really have a knack for finding the Goodies! Sure is fun to go out though and find a few Keepers to add to the ever growing Collections. Glad you liked the finds Lazyaussie! Good Luck and HH to you when you get out and do some Treasure Hunting of your own.

that if other detectorist's have hit an area and there is Plugs everywhere, that they will always leave some Goodies for the next guy, except maybe me. I'm like a Vacuum Cleaner, once I go through it, it's cleaned out. Unless of course I forget to change the bag and it overflows and I lose some here and there or even worse, the bad Explodes!. Good Luck and HH to you Bryce and thanks for the reply.:yo:

Hey James nice bunch of silver, I really like the walker and the 1960D is very interesting wow :crylol: another fantastic Hunt as always WTG. I finally got my 2 new minelab coils and have hunted them hard, I'm still in shock as to how they perform you was 100% RIGHT  thanks for your helpful tips. HH...Phil

Just sent you a PM James. I just don't have the words to discribe your latest finds so I will just say WOW!!!!!!!! You are the one that's for sure buddy. Keep em coming...................:clapping: Here is the picture of the digging tool I was telling you about in my PM to you. I couldn't figure out how to attach it.

I just wet the Nickel and put some Dishsoap on it and then wet the Brass Brush and scrubbed it. It was a bit dull after the 1st time through so I just repeated the process 1 more time. Then I took some Brasso Cleaner and did a quick polish to it and it turned out pretty nice. I myself was pretty amazed at the results. Glad you liked the finds and hope this answered your question. Good Luck and HH to you Neal!

Hope to see you post some Goodies real soon to see if I was right or not. For some reason, I have a feeling you will do just fine on your next outing when ever you finally get back into the swing of things. Good Luck and HH to you.

Thanks for the Pic. The only other Digger's I have is the Ground Shark, a New Minelab Digger, and a Wilcox Digger that I have never used before since it is Thicker Metal and would be harder to shove into the ground. I haven't used the Ground Shark much though so I stick to the Lesche Digger since it is easy to carry and fits nicely in my Pouch. Sent you a PM back and hopefully you will have better Luck on your next outing. Good Luck and HH to you.
