I have only had my etrac a week or so but ive dug a couple eagle buttons and a few minie balls. Anyway,i use relic mode,2 tone, ferrous audio, auto sens and im having trouble with square nails giving a good churp along with a grunt,i re scan and the same thing(i hate to not dig because i dug an eagle button about 8 inches deep that was giving the same audion response). I havent tried the quick mask feature and really dont understand exactly how it works so if anyone using the etrac for relic hunting has a few pointers id really appreciate it. Thanks-Kevin

Wide open quick mask Kevin is just another screen that is basically your Etrac's all metal wide open as there isn't any discrimination till you put some in. It would be you removing the blacked out area from the relic or coins mode same thing.
You only have to hit one button on the face of the machine to access it (quick mask) so it's like having 2 discrimination choices you can go back and forth on for dig decisions to compare.

Try just blacking out the top most line on the screen from CO 01- CO 30 or a bit more to CO 40 ( larger silver hits in the 40's on the 01 line so leave open from 01-40 CO to 01-50 CO) and leave the rest of the screen wide open clear. That should allow you to hear the iron but prevent that wrap around falsing from occouring so much that your talking about. First I ran it wide open as suggested but got a lot of falsing then I read on here to try blacking out that line and that did the trick. Runs pretty quiet and smooth till I pass over a target when i use the TTF mode. I mainly coin shoot but works for your relic hunting the same way.

I think the top line disced out gets rid of the iron false chirps and lets the good relic targets sound off.Even gives a good high tone on larger iron and iron/steel gun parts like hammers, side plates and such.
