Any E-Trac'ers from Long Island or Westchester area - i have a proposition...

I am primarily a beach hunter with an Excal (since this June) and have found great stuff. The ease of use plus the many great videos posted have helped me master that machine. I just recently got the E-Trac (my first land machine) and have gone out just a few times (maybe 3 hours total).

I will GLADLY pay anyone who has good experience with their E-Trac (and has found some good finds) $250 cash upfront to let me detect with them for 4 hours or so. I don't need to go to your "secret place" - just somewhere you know has and may still produce some finds. I strongly believe this is a most excellent, practical way to learn how to set-up and use the controls. I have read about 75% of Andy's book but nothing beats on the job training.

The money incentive is not to be a rude snob, but could be a great way for you to get the wife to "let you out of the house", versus the old "another day detecting" routine we all get - tell her you'll be taking her out real nice - for dinner to the best place in town...after being compensated for training another detectorist on this awesome machine....that should make her smile.

Please, any takers? barryny@optonline.net

Not a bad idea. Without a doubt the best learning tool is a live experienced person by your side. Would save a heck of a lot of the learning curve with any detector.

only had mine three months still leaning myself maybe i'll go half with you if you find someone. was good with my safari but e traac very diff. yonkers n.y.

If i was closer i would gladdly help out, no cash necesarry either(maybe a couple of :beers: afterwards though:biggrin:) Try downloading and installing the simulator to get a grip of the basic sounds and controls/menu system, after that its petty much a time element and practice

hey Barry,i have two etrac's and have found alot of good stuff,I'm no expert but i do feel comfortable using the etrac i have been detecting over30 years, where do you live ?I'm in Suffolk co,let me know and maybe we can hook up,tony c

I think the money is unnecessary, but that's your choice. I think most people would help you for free. You would probably get more help by joining a Metal Detecting Club. Good Luck.

Barry,

Go to Radioshack and get a Y-splitter to plug two sets of headphone into one machine!! And listen with headphones on to get a better grip on the sounds. I have a splitter for me and my son!! The sounds and how the operator reacts will give you a much better idea!! When you get into trash this is when the headphones and a helping hand will give you great insight!! What you will hear if worth a thousand words!! Seeing what the user hears and acts on will teach you really quick.

Take Care, M.L. Hinds (Lee)

thanks everyone for the advice. Lee - great idea about the splitter for when I get someone to go out with. Jim - appreciate the offer - wish I was closer, but I could get to Maryland faster than getting all the way up there to Niagra County (hopefully it's not too cold this week for you)...Tony C - I'm in Suffolk Cty too - Dix Hills (Exit 50 LIE) - sent you PM, thanks....
