Any F70 users?

I like trying out different detectors and never
used a Fisher product.

Was looking at the F70 and the F4

Would enjoy hearing from those that use both detectors.

What do you like best about it etc,,,

Thanks!
Larry

Hi-

I use the Fisher F70 and I love it. In the past I've had the Garrett Ace 250, At PRo, GTI 1350, Whites Matrix M-6, Prizm 6, Tesoro Tejon and Cortez. The F70, for me and my style of hunting has really been a god send.

I like how the F70 is extremely customizable. I tend to run with the following settings:

Disc : 06
Speed: dE
Sensitivity: 99
Threshold: -4 (to as high as i can)
#of Tones: 2F (this is great to beat iron masking)

I have found more silver with this machine in a shorter amount of time than with any other machine I mentioned above. Your mileage may very but for me it has been great. I primarily coin shoot and for that it is a slayer. I love the battery life I've had the machine for 3-4 months now and I detect 3-4 times a week for approximately 2 hours at a whack and I've only changed the batteries once. The machine is also very light and is easily swung all day long if you so wish.

The bad is that there is a fairly or for me anyways there was a fairly long learning curve even though I had used several machines in the past. I also had a difficult time dealing with the "chattering" but adjusting threshold will work wonders as well as using 2F for your tones. The 3, 3h,4 etc gets a bit too much for my ears and audio fatigue sets in quickly.

Feel free to ask me anything else. There are others on this forum who REALLY know the machine much better than I do. I'm just letting you know what i think and what has worked for me.

Best of luck!

Hi Larry. I don't know much about the F4. I use the F70 and I love the machine. It is the first one I ever owned. I always would borrow my fathers machines tesoro silver sabre , fisher 1265,1266,1270. So I learned by tone to dig targets. Now I still have tone/tones and a major plus is the T.I.D. numbers which really helps to determine your targets in the ground. Very light weight to swing all day long. It does take a while to learn but when you do..... OH BOY.....you will find more stuff then ever before. That is my personal opinion. I've never been disappointed once. Good luck with your choice and hopefully someone else will chime in with some info for you. HH. Tim

Larry I have to say the above posts are really good. I have had my F70 like 3 years? Time and me seem to get mixed up a lot. It is a very flexible machine. One heck of a coin shooter and jewelry finder. Once you get to know the coin numbers you can really do some serious coin stabbing and Mud says. The reason why I like the F70 is because it is so balanced, light, fast, easy to use, can adjust to almost every kind of hunt you are going to do. I have had it in about 80 parks, school, and beaches and it has always worked just great. I have always been able to ground balance and work any site with adjusting the chatter so it is a comfortable hunt. It is tough and dependable. I have hundreds of hours using the F70. I have found thousands of coins (both clad and silver) and many pieces of jewelry. It works great on (freshwater) beaches both wet/dry sand. If you don't seem to punching through the wet sand you can always go to the AT mode and it will work better. I have had a number of the new super detectors, but they have come and gone. Yet the F70 is still here. Sometimes I don't use the F70 for months while I am trying out these new super detectors. I pick up the F70 and in a few minutes I am right back to it like it was a weekend without using it. Remember this is just my opinion and not that of the management. Best of luck picking a new detector......Z

Hey Larry, What Tbone, Tim and Zeek said! I call it the "quick broom", 'cause you can cover a lot of ground and sweep up the finds in a hurry!
We all have our favorite go to programs, mine is a really low sens, 53, -3 thresh, 1 disc, DE mode, DP tones, this is a very comfortable program that kills targets in the 5" to surface range for me...I believe Zeek got over 7000 coins last year and some nice silver and gold too, and He's like 106 years old or something...that really says a lot.. I've had mine for several years with ZERO issues, out in the rain and snow and heat, it stays out in my truck. Get the 11" dd with it, and maybe a 5" if you want, and you will have all you need for the rest of your life.

yep the f70 is a great md you dont see to many used ones being sold or read very many bad reviews on them. if you get one and take a little time to learn it you wont be sorry, good luck and hh

Excellent Feedback!

I'm going to order one for sure.
I'm sure you will hear me chime in real soon once I get it.

Haven't used an F4 but I like what I see from users on the forums around the web. My F70 is my usual go-to machine these days at dig time. What the other guys said, ditto. Just got in from a a walk through the park and hit a '53 rosie standing up on edge at about 2". No big deal, silver is silver, but a few "flagship" rigs have been over that rosie, just this year alone. Got a '55D wheatie and a '37 wheatie as well. Not much into clad digging these days, and the F70 works great for telling me that these were not clad finds. Easy to use, easy to learn. Get one!

Popped out this pewter button yesterday about 5" down, no idea what it is but I didn't have one yet so I like it. Solid nickel reading (32) on the F70.

I promise you won't be disappointed larry. Go for the F70. And I'm pretty sure that all the people here that use the machine will be more than happy to help you with all your questions. Now. For elgintim. You have a very nice find. That my friend is a revolutionary war era/circa massachusetts button. Way to go. HH. Tim

If it helps, the button is about 20 mm in diameter and has the legend "RNO" or "RNC" beneath the figure.

Don't find much like that around Chicagoland here.

You guys are great! I'm really impressed by all of the comments on
the F70 plus the friendly help.

That's a winning combination for sure!

Thanks for all!

Hi Larry. Well for me I love to find things in the ground. And if I don't now what it is......... The new hunt starts with research and trying to figure out what the item is. I have more fun sometimes trying to ID items. And you learn a lot about history. HH Tim

Thanks to those who shared your settings.

That always helps when starting to use a new
machine.

My F70 gets ordered tomorrow!

HH - Larry

Well get it express delivered! You'll have some great times with it. Don't go expecting gold, silver or anything rare, exotic and fast-fortune-oriented or you will risk becoming one of those who will be getting your next machine in 3 months, then another a few months later. Just find some quiet little corner of town and see what the world left behind in it's haste and hurry to move on.

Congrats Larry, I don't think you will regret it. Well said Elgin Tim, well said.

TIm,

I agree with you 100%. I do this just for the thrill of the hunt and relaxation.
I have the attitude that it you are meant to find something valueable, then
it will come. If not, that's the way it's supposed to be!

Larry,

Very wise way to think. There is a Scottish saying that I've adopted when I think about my hunts. "What's meant for ye, will not pass ye by"

Take care and Happy Hunting

Good luck Larry..... And remember to start a new thread for help with your new F70. I found this forum doing research on my purchase of the machine. Joined up. And everyone that I talked to where very helpful. Now I want to do the same thing. HH Tim...........I love this hobby. :)
