Any feed back on the DD 5" coil for the F5

I have the eliptical original coil for the f 5 but it doesn't work well, constantly jumping around on the digital read out, sent it to Fisher and it was replaced with a new one, a little better but still erratic, i have the 11" DD and it works perfectly, i'm thinking about the 5" DD coil, has anyone had this problem and any feed back on the 5" coil.

I do hunt parks and some are trashy and need a small coil.

This problem is strange because i have exchanged coils in the field and no problem with the 11" DD but no matter where i use the 10" elliptical coil it just bounces around with all kinds of numbers and won't settle down. The only time it does settle down is when over coins like dimes or quarters it reads out with a steady 71-72 and 82- 83.

Sounds like EMI, try running the gain at about 45 or less and set the threshold at neg 2-4 and see if it quiets down. When it runs erratic like you say due to Emi, it will settle down when over a good target but as soon as your past that target it will go back to dancing around.

Digger,
Try that 10" coil in several places,,away from towers elect. lines,,etc.....No cell phone....
I would think that if the 11" dd ran smooth and the 10" does not,, may be you have another bad coil...

As for the 5" dd coil,,,I would like to see some feedback on the F-5 and the 5" coil....
I had a Omega 8000 and the 5" dd coil was what I used,,,the places that I hunt are trashy...
Most DD's have a problem with rusty bottle caps......

What are the settings that you are using ???
And what is your GB number ???

Bj

Running at 65 on gain and -1 GB at about 75 but jumps around a lot sometimes down to 17 to 20 and back up to 75. The F5 has been rebuilt by fisher about six months ago and has worked great since then with the 11" DD coil.

Just trying to make the decision if the 5" DD coil would be worth the investment.

you are probably right on lowering the gain and threshold will try some more and get back to you

Thanks

From my experience with the smaller coil and the larger DD coil, the smaller coil is smoother and quieter while the larger coil gets interference when near power lines, etc. It sounds like you may have a coil problem. Send it back to FT for a check up.

Firts thing! This report for F70.General Information. True for other types of detector.

I love this little puck! I used the scrub area, parks, iron litred sites, beach etc..
I found him to do things that you otherwise would have never found it. Fits in tight spaces. The best results this small figurine.
Between the thick bushes. I do not understand why I tried to reach there. 6th sense? .)

If you are fast swing and fast run hunter, not your coil.

It has small footprint, great patience is necessary. :)

I believe this is what i need, i have a lot of trash in the park that i hunt,i have found some gold and silver but need to get around trees and bushes, tight places with a lot of trash.

Thanks for the info, i think i will have to try one for myself.

My t2 5" coil is almost unbelievable! I can run it super hot in most areas. I run bp lmost always on 5" coil. Never tried the 10" but have good results witj the 11". 11" is my favorite......jmann:teknetics::csflag:
