You dont have dimensions listed but crown looks familiar. If big enough for cigarettes then thats a maybe.... crown looks like the brand Pall Mall. Just a guess
 
Ok, for whatever reason all I got was the last picture of the box open..... with quarter in photo its was too small for cigs. Wife said looks like grandmothers pill box or maybe for carrying stamps. V piece tho is curious......
 
Maybe a match holder?
Back in the day both stick type and matchbook holders were a common thing.
Just saw a post somewhere about an old matchbook holder someone found that was silver
 
Good call! We were picking thru an old railroad siding dump near a rest stop once. Found several tin cans marked Union Pacific orange juice and one sterling silver cigarette case with a monogrammed initial. Amazing what people threw away back then!
 
My take on this: Some sort of presentation box. Military. Crown could be Canadian, English, most likely northern european. The V looks like an oak cluster or olive cluster. Could signify an award at the end of a campaign or victory. Generally where was this found? A river in what country?
