I'd love to learn

We have lots of agate and cherty rocks here. I've tried a few times but have had varying results, cut finger and jarred wrists.

I started in 1995, been doing off and on since.
 
old lineman, do you ever get any of the midwest white Burlington to knap ? It makes beautiful Dovetails and Thebes.
 
What we have here is mostly obsidian and agate. The agate has to be heat treated in order to chip it. I had a guy give me some chert from Ohio but I haven't got around to chipping it yet.
