any technique to detect in tall grass??

hello all metal detectors users, what is the best technique to detect in tall grass. thanks Stasys
 
Well go there about a week or so before you hunt it and set it on fire, be sure the wind is in your favour. A small back burn will help too. then go back after it rains and all is cleared. Plus be sure and drop some gang related items on the ground to, like a pair of pants 33' waist and 15' inch inseam. that's a sure sign. just joking on the fire part. A little 5 inch coil, and if your in the south, snake leggings, no head phones so you can here them rattle snakes. plus a good shovel long handle. Plus a can of Off to rid off all tricks, chiggers and mosquitoes
 
iv used a sheet of thin plexi glass that was 4' x 4' put me a rope on it so i didnt have to bend down to lift it up.
then just laid it down over the weeds and grass detected that spot and picked it up slid it down and layed it down again.
i should a have used plywood cause the plexi didnt last to long. it was to thin and stared cracking after a few hours.
once you have a target just move the sheet out of the way. the weeds will be layed over flat so then you can pp and dig
 
I've found that taking my pet elephant into the brush fist really packs it down well. Then pushing a herd of pomeranian pygmy goats really cuts the flora back further. Once that's done I count on all that global warming to dessicate the area so it's easier to dig. :) Hee..Hee.. Actually I stay out of tall grass, I hate ticks, and snakes, so I just wait for Winter to do my dirty work, and go early in the spring to check the area out.

I would think an elliptical coil might help in some instances .... but I do like the weed eater coil idea :clapping:....
then it would look something like a crop circle when you leave the site ....:yikes:

I had a good spot where I was finding some Eagle buttons and just took a weed eater with me and cleared a 20 x 20 area pretty quick and hunted it well. I also use a Joey coil in grass and woods.
 
I think I will make up a 3x3 piece of 7/16 OSB to use around the perimeter of my property. I live on 3 acres and only cut about 1 acre of the lawn and have been wondering if there is anything here to discover. I did find an old civil war uniform button one day when I was still using a Whites Eagle II SL. I'd also like to find the location of the outhouse from the 1800's house that buts up next to my property. Would like to do some privy digging for old bottles.
Still I love the idea using a piece of plywood to get into tall grass. Fall and spring is great but sometimes you're in an area at different times of the year and can't wait for a different season.
 
If you are in a snowfall area, hunt it just after the snow comes off. The grass will be matted down and the soil moist. Late in the fall can be good as well once things start freezing. This works for me.

Other than that, I have mowed a couple lawns and used a weed trimmer as well if there is promise to the area.

The board idea sounds pretty good. I can see using an old clear carpet protector that goes underneath a desk chair.

If you have alien connections, see if you can get them to do some crop circles in your area. :lmfao:

I like Franks suggestion.... we could use the F75 to wack those weed then use the explorer to find the goodies:rofl: That ply wood suggestion was well thought out. Its tuff with the DD they catch a lot stuff. If you are worried about snakes.... winter the best shot. I have a friend who was digging for gold in AZ and got bit on the finger by a rattler... just one fang. Before they got him air lifted he was bleeding from about everywhere. I keep my eyes out and ears open in those locations. Ive seen some people use a homemade plexyglass cover that let the coil glide a little better.

Ate is the past tense of eat. So, he was weed eating the whole yard, but when he finished he had weed ate it? :shrug:

Yes,thay sey thee english language is hard to get right!so many meanings for words that sound the same!

Be,Bee,See,Sea, and then you get into redneck terms.But we won't go there lol

I have found that a heavy roller works the best unless to much under brush.You can make one very cheap out of a old round tank or buy one ready made. You can use water to make it heavy and then empty until next use,Ray.
PS A narrow one is easier to pull in the tall stuff.
 
I've heard that those crop circle pranksters use a board w/ a rope attached, stepping on the board, lifting it up w/ the rope and repeat again and again. I've considered doing this, but am too lazy. This year in the tall grass I've found a 36' walker, a couple silver Washington Q's, and several silver rosies by just swinging as low as I could get and then when picking up even the slightest signal stomping on the grass to flatten it and then getting lower for a better ID. I think, apart from extraordinairy measures, like fire, or weed whacking, perhaps you should just swing away best you can and have confidence that you can find things.
