anybody tried the ultimate 13" coil or NEL's on the Gamma

I've probably asked this a while ago but I'm thinking of trying the teknetic's line again and looking for users I've tried most models other than the t-2 but the gamma I've always liked over the omega and have found using the stock coils just as deep but wondering on the others if there is added extra depth or little quirks that stand out using the other coils

It has been a while since I detected but I have and used a BIG Nels DD coil on the Gamma. It stays on the detector and despite the large size was very good in the trashy areas that I hunted in. For me it was great. Not necessarily more depth but the target seperation was off the chain. I honestly got to where I could tell with a VERY high success rate the difference between a beaver tail pull tab, a modern tab that people pull off and throw on the ground, and a nickel. The numerical indicators were rock solid with that coil. The nickels, can slaw and gold rings still sounded the same and rang up as solid 57s with an occasional 56. Like once or twice 56. I just discovered that Nels now has a midsized DD and I am ordering one as soon as I finish typing this. If it is as consistant as it's bigger brother it is worth the money.

How much better did you notice between the stock concentric and the dd,
Did you gain any depth at all,
I am constantly getting dimes at 7 to 9 inches here in east Texas with the stock coil, this detector is back to where i was when I mistakenly got rid of my cz 5
nice detector the gamma is, just thought the larger coil would cover more area and go a bit deeper, I am surprised at the separation you claim, what a plus.
I plan on a coil up grade when I finish my home work on them and the advantages of each one
Your post is helpful thanks

The stock 11" DD IS a great coil. Just want to put that out there. In my soil, in the past ( because I just started detecting again after a 3 year hiatus) I believe the deepest I have dug with the NEL Tornado was a wheat penny at 7 + inches but it was an "iffy" signal... I could have easily walked away from it but chose to dig it. Most of my finds are 5 inches or less. For me, the benefit of the NEL coil is the separation and identification properties it brings to the game. Even in trashy areas that big coil was able to identify and allow me to pull good targets... it acts different or responds different to what is under it than the stock 11 inch. That's not to say it's magic or has super powers... I think that in my dirt in the areas I detect it allows the Gamma to be its very best. I remember once identifying a square modern pull tab some idiot threw on the ground that was now buried. I swapped to the stock 11 DD and only after swinging over the target much longer than I would under normal circumstances and from different angles did it finally give that little dip/break that I was looking for to let me know what it was. This will happen in 3 to 5 swings with the NEL coil. The numbers are a fairly solid (61/62?) but the give away is that dip/break.

Because I am rusty from years of inactivity I have no recent examples to share or numbers to give on the tabs... BUT... I assure you that (for me, in my area, disc 10, Sens 80 or higher, tones on 4) the NEL Tornado allows me to identify with a high degree of accuracy, nickels from pull tabs, and the type of tab... I just need to re learn what it is telling me. If I get rock solid numbers in any foil/nickel/pull tab area without the tell tales I dig it. I do think I remember that only twice did I dig a nickel that I was fairly certain was a tab but was not. Must have been a reason I checked... trash in the hole or something. I did post years ago about the NEL coil on my Gamma that may help because it was all fresh in my mind when I put it up. FWIW... the NEL Sharpshooter did a pretty good job for me the other day but it will take a while before it all sinks back in.

Having said all that... the best thing for recovering the most valuables is to dig it all. What works for me in my area may not work for you in yours. If it does, and you KNOW your machine, the NEL coil is a slight improvement over the 11 inch DD coil in my opinion but is not at all necessary for fun filled and successful outings.

I know a few years back when I did have a gamma that some deep dime signals would read 40 for some reason and this was with the 8" round coil and the signal would be broke up little as well.........by the way happy new year everyone!

Using the slightly larger either NEL or Detech coils over the stock coils do as a general rule offer slightly better depth and still keep the sensitivity to small items as we,they also weight a little more than a stock coil and both of them as good at pinpointing, build quality is also very good on both of these brand names of coils. The stock coil although good and matched to the detector for all round general use i found the build quality not the best and also one other thing i dont like is the way that the coil is rear mounted to the bottom rod, only a small gripe but it throws the balance of the detector out slightly i personally found.

Going to bigger coils like say the large SEF coil and also the Big NEL do have places in ones coil arsenal and mainly used for deep say pasture use or deep ploughed and rolled use,the downside is of course they are not really for trash sites as you can then get problems of nulled targets ie a good target being nulled by the discrimination if say a iron target is under the coil at the same time which often happens, then you can stand a high possibility of loosing out on nice finds.

I dont use stock coils most of the time,i always carry a selection of coils with me and use the proper coil for the job,my favourite large coil is the SEF15X12 but that is mainly used on deep pasture or the possibilty of a hoard and always use a VLF machine to give me some indication and also to clear it of junk targets prior to using the big fella the Pulse, but of course this is not the every day scenario.

The Ultimate coil is a very popular coil and just seems to give the right amount of depth increase and still keep all the good features of the stock coil ie pinpointing and sensitivity to small targets.

Good luck
