Anyone have an idea what this might be?

I found this in a corn field along the Missouri River. It is silver, the same size as a quarter and has a reeded edge. With the ramdom markings, if it weren't for the reeded edge I'd swear that someone chopped up a coin and pressed it back together. It is probably my imagination, but I swear I can see the image of a lady gazing toward what would be 2:00 in the first picture. There are a few letters or numbers engraved about 20% of the way up from the bottom. There are a few other letters scattered throughout the surface, like those on regular coins. But as I said, they are scattered with no obvious wording. The smooth half-oval shape near the 9:00 edge appears to be similar to what is used for the date on the Standing quarter. But it is caused from a small bend in this thing. The random designs on both sides resemble stars, leaves, triangles etc. I suppose it could be an old quarter that someone was making into a love token of sorts. Anyone have a suggestion on what it might be or once was? Thanks in advance. HH Randy

My son found a Seated Liberty Quarter several years back that was in a fire it was not defaced as severely as yours but showed a lot of blistering that resembled yours. My father-in-law also found a Seated Liberty Dime that could barely be made out as such that was also in a fire. So I also believe yours is a quarter that has been in a fire. Rick (IL)

I have a silver 'coin' the size of a dime like that exactly. Assumed it went thru a fire that blistered the surface on both sides.

Randy-----I found an old coin (only dime size) that looked about like that at an old dump site once.-----It had been thru fire(s).---I cleaned & cleaned on it till my fingers were about wore out.--It turned out to be an (almost) "slick" Barber dime.--You could just BARELY see a little markings.---I'd hazard to guess yours is a quarter.--------Del

Thanks for the responses. I'll accept it as a fire damaged quarter and hope it wasn't an 1870 CC.

I considered it maybe being a quarter that went through a fire. But since the reeded edge is still sharp, and there are some engraved "after market" letters or numbers on it, I was left scratching my head. I'll see if I can clean some of the dirt off and get a read on those letters and/or numbers. Thanks again for the input. HH Randy
