Anyone notice how slow this forum has gotten since it was split?

Yes, it has become more slow as far as finds being posted and a lot more chit chat going on which I feel belong on chat forums. Has all of everyone's favorite hunting spots dried up or have the good targets become just out of reach of our Exploers not including the E-Trac? Sure, the E-Trac has it's own forum now, but that doesn't mean that us old die hard outdated Explorer users can't post our finds no matter how meager they may seem. Come on fellows. Let's start posting more finds and less chit chat. HH.

It has slowed up around here for sure. There shouldn't have been another forum. Minelab is spread very thin here with all the different forums.I liked the one stop for the two top machines.

I agree - it never should have been split up. I find myself visitting this forum less and less and miss some of the folks that post here. There have been a lot of discussions on settings on the E-Trac forum, but that's only because we're still learning the machine and there's not a wealth of knowledge out there yet. I know they (the marketeers) are saying that the E-Tra is not an Explorer, but it's about as darn close as you can get and certainly could have been called the Explorer III without any ill repercussions. I feel bad for the sponsors as now they have to buy ads for two forums instead of just one. And I've seen some finds cross-posted and sadly now are getting half the attention -- and there have been some great finds on the E-Trac forum. Personally I feel that the name E-Trac as opposed to Explorer III was a mistake from a cognitive point of view, but I understand the need for the marketing department to bill it as a totally new machine. Too bad there's no user option here to view the threads of two forums as one if one so chooses.

Me, I'm hoping to get out with my Explorer III this weekend for the first time.

I'm afraid it's all my fault guys. You see for years I have been lurking here wishing like crazy that I had a Explorer of my own. The old coins that were being posted were fantastic finds compared to the finds I made with other brand detectors. So I finally got a used Explorer ll couple of months ago. And no sooner then when I got it... this ol' forum just dried up. So far as finds are concerned that is. So I want to tell everyone "Sorry About that..."
Dang ( Or as many of my friends call me, "Jinx" )

I'm hitting that place I talked about 3 weeks ago on part of Sunday maybe but definitely Monday morning I will be swinging. I even went the extra mile and wanted to make sure it was alright even though I could find nothing in the laws that said I couldn't do it. First I went to the Police Station, then the women said go to Traffic engineering, so they told me go to Park Management in Roger Williams Park. I get there and she said oh, you have to go to Neighborhood Parks . I get there and start talking to them and of course every single contact i made was met with, "Metal what?" WHat's this about. So I go into my spiel and there is a guy there with her and She asks me,"Are you going to dig holes" The guy immediately chimes,"Oh no, he won't be digging any holes" I told her what I was going to do. She said ok, but if I get any complaints/damage then you'll have to stop. I gave her my name & phone # and after I start leaving I see the Park Ranger and I should've asked him about doing Roger Williams Park but I think it is historical as it is over a 100 years old so I think it is forbidden if I am mistaken but I am emboldened to ask in the future. that would be a major kill if I could do that place. I would have coins coming out my hiney hole. so I am set to go. I feel pretty confident now. If any police come or someone says something I can tell them I have permission from the director of Neighborhood Parks. That area is pretty big. It will take me about 30-40 hours to do,heehee. It would be nice to have that 15x12 SEF coil right now but I am saving for the Excalibur.

I will definitely be posting my finds on here shortly. It's mostly grass area will sharpen my lawn digging skills so I am going to be extra careful. We have had about a weeks worth of rain straight so damage to grass will be minimal. I also like it that the leaves are starting to blanket the grass areas now. If any problems arise I will just tell them I am Eddie from Poulsbo, heehee

I never get much time to post my finds with all my detectors I use, or the time to get out and when I do I find James has worked it hard and don't leave much for me.
I have been using the E-Trac more as it has been doing good for me and better then my Explorers have, but that is me and how I understand the detector and my type of hunting.
I remember when I used to check this forum everyday and there was 70- 100 post a day on the Explorer forum, but since the X-Terra and now the E-Trac forums have been added we see less on the Explorer forum. Also the Explorer class room is really slow compared to what it was a couple years ago and my favorite the Sovereign forum is also not as active as it used to be, but we have to be glad we have these forum as we do learn more about these detectors here than anyplace else including the factory owners manuals.

COME ON JAMES FINDS SOME GOODIES AGAIN AND GET THIS FORUM HOPPING AGAIN !!!

At least you can find what your looking for now without wading through etrac messages, well done on the split

Hi Del,

Crazy isn't it? I normally don't have much spare time to detect, but the last few weeks have been unusually hectic and a bit wet on the weekend. I'm chomping at the bit now to get out there with my Explorer III!

I think you misunderstood me - didn't try and get anyone to join the E-Trac forum...just wanted to know if anyone noticed the decrease in posts. I think it should have been kept as a single forum, but I know others disagree.

Now that you mention it I have to agree with you. What happens when they come out with the X-RAY model and then another schism happens. After a while in theory with the way the groups are being split up as new models come out you are going to have 10 people per different MD.

...i merely disagree! :please:

there is a lot more oxygen in this room now, again! ahhhhh...

Well then your prior post makes no sense to me as I wasn't trying to get you to join the "new" forum - or anyone else for that matter.

i can't afford to purchase an E-Trac right now. even if i could, i think i would wait until the bugs are worked out and hopefully i can buy an updated version.

several of you went right out and got one, then immediately began squabbling about various features that make absolutely no sense to me because those new features have no bearing on the previous Explorer models. the squabbling took up several pages of the Explorer (XS, II, SE) forum, and GUVNER made the decision to put the E-Trac in its own room.

since i'm stuck with my cheap little outdated Explorer SE, i'm grateful that i still have a place to read about how others are doing with theirs. i rarely post my finds here because my posts just get buried by others who feel the need to post 10 or 20 times a day. it's somewhat of a popularity contest that i don't want to get involved in.

i do, however, try to keep up on what others are doing here. i also visit the E-Trac forum when i am curious enough.

in closing, i applaud GUVNER's decision, and i want to emphasize that i'm merely offering my own opinion. i hope this clears things up for you, and i wish you well.

I'm a little confused. The pictures that you posted a while back, were they on city streets or inside of a park area? If they were city street areas then the parks department have no say what so ever whether you can detect or not. Hope you find some stuff there just the same and waiting for some pictures. Oh yeah, if anyone does give you a bad time, you have my permission to say you are Eddie from Poulsbo. HH.

That was my error because I never posted the park sign so then I had it in my mind that it's public property but as you can see from this pic which I didn't post that it is under the City's Park jurisdiction although it has "no name." There are other more smaller lesser known parks that I am going to hit too. One is particularly old and is not that big but could yield some old coins. I am going to have to do some recon on it, maybe this weekend. I'll be doing that park that I posted pics of maybe Sunday afternoon weather permitting and I am definitely going to start pounding it early Monday morning. I should be able to get in 10 hours worth of swing time. It'll feel good as we have had lots of rain lately.

There is a park right in the middle of Wall Street Stock Exchange in NY. It's the oldest park in NYC (1733). It's called Bowling Green Park. I never would've spotted that old one in my city I talked about that I have to do recon on if I wasn't looking at it with a MD's eyes.
