This past Sunday the Husband (Brian) and I drove from Buffalo, NY to Philadelphia, PA and back again with a total driving time of Thirteen Hours
We attended an Event for three and one half hours between driving times, the trip was for the sake of a Good Friend.
While driving we went through many small and seemingly old Towns and I kept seeing really good potential for future digging

The Photo was taken at the Event and the background was Rome, Italy not Rome, New York
Do not comment about no smiles because it was after six and one half hours of driving after hardly any sleep the night before

The next day I was driving and I realized I was paying more attention to the scenery and the "Digging Potential" than the road!
That realization kinda scared me and I forced myself to focus on the driving

So Do You Find Yourself A Road Hazard Too For The Sake Of Digging?!

I'm always looking for places to hunt and have found myself looking sideways instead of in front of me. I'm so bad, if a place looks good enough, I'll turn around and investigate more. So, you are not alone in the craziness.
 
I am always looking at old places and good spots while driving, come to think of it, I might just be a road hazard. Nice picture of you and the Husband, your friend is lucky to have friends like you.

I was just out cruising the neighborhood getting a mental picture of prosepctive sites today......and just about turned the wrong way on a one way street. To my defense there wasn't a sign right on the corner...but it was halfway down the block in the direction that cars would be traveling to...not from.

I thought maybe I was the only one that drives like that. Glad to hear that I am not alone. :surrender:
 
While driving I am always on the lookout for places I think have detecting potential. I always write them down as I go buy since otherwise I will forget about them.
 
Some of the GPS units will show parks on the maps, sometimes if I am in a different town or area I dont know I will fire up the garmin and look at the maps and they will usually show the local parks. If they are close I will go check them out.
 
Looks like a timely post! I make the same run (to Philadelphia) at least twice monthly-Mrs.Mini is working there-and it is BORING! Then I started looking for places to hunt, too. I was beginning to think I got the "bug" bad, but I'm glad to see I'm not alone!
 
I'm in a job where I drive every day all over as we cover a big area here in eastern N.Y. above Albany so I get to look see for places on their dime (VZ).

Like Killmerg said I got to write them down or see them several times over before I can recall them. Funny how I get a day off and my mind draws a blank so I got to go read my list and refresh my memory and decide where to go.

We also have a GPS and I am for the most part directionally challenged and let us not talk of keeping it in your head as in locations to go back to

So even driving I will press "where Am I" and save a location for future exploring, you can imagine how I name these locations while driving up to 65MPH

When I was in England I started a "Journal" that included any MD stuff as in programs from the Forum or comments about items and where they were found

I still use it some what to look back on and have started adding potential locations for future MD

When the weather is decent I keep the detector and a change of clothes in the car for the opportunity to take a LONG LUNCH and MD

But we had a mission to get to Philly and strangely the areas and certainly Philly looked like they were experiencing Winter (frozen ground?) more than we had at home

We discussed doing a trip in the Spring to go more leisurely in the same direction and stop when it felt right and maybe some research would not hurt either

I personally don't find myself a road hazard as I look at potential hunting grounds, but I do feel as though the trees, cars, guardrails and ditches are a hazard, as I could hit them and get hurt!!!! lol

Funny... I never thought of myself as a "road hazard" until you started this topic. After telling my wife the topic, she just laughed and said that I'm the worst there is for this - and that's why she does all the driving when we go somewhere together!

I, like you and NGE always keep the GPS at the ready to mark potential hunt sites. What an awesome device for our hobby!

Thanks for starting this topic. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the comments and have taken more than a little comfort in learning that I'm not the only one that's spending so much of my time behind the wheel looking for possible hunt sites!
 
moreso now, in the winter. because all the vegetation has died off and you can see things that were covered before. (leaves, brush, etc.) just the other day i saw remnants of a sandstone block foundation of a long gone creek crossing! I never noticed it before.

When are You Going to that spot and are you dreaming about it? :detecting:

I came to the same conclusion about seeing the ground without cover, there are benefits to Winter especially when it is a Mild Winter :)
