I know that when I get mine the first place I'm going is to a local school to find some GOLD... I can find air without a machine... Ha Ha Ha

Everything is froze up here but when I get mine I will shovel off the test plot and see what happens.

I think seasoned Garrett users will be pleased and have no problems. Thank God for the forums to help those not as experienced. Does the AT PRO have that famous bell-tone? Hope everyone is pleased with their new toy. Boy's and Girl's now get out there and play and don't come in until you have your report done. HH :twodetecting:

Wow, I have one on order........I took out the ace 250 just to warm up. I am really looking forward to the tone roll. It reminded me of why I got an explorer.

I have seen a lot of users of other brands knock the bell tone. Me? I love it. You hear the bell tone and you can be pretty darn sure you are going to find something decent! Onus.

The "bell done" is just another reason why I
swtiched from White to Garrett.

From the videos I watched it's crisp, clear, and
then ... at one time I have the Safari flute machine.

Hearh that Onus...better than those weird minelab tones...ha flute sounds, good one!

Yup, us Minelab users have to suffer through those weird sounds as we dig the best targets on the forums .....Tough job , but somebody's gotta do it !!....

yeah minelabs are wantta be garretts when they grow up lol

Got my new AT PRO today ... bet a lot of others did also.

Bell Tone ... yes ... it has one but that is in "Standard Mode" and there the "Bell Tone" replaces the high tone.
You still have the low and mid tones.
In Standard Mode all tones are the same loudness regardless of how close the target is to the coil.

In "Pro Mode" you get tone roll.
And with the "Iron Audio" on ... a steel bottle cap or washer will have a low ... then a high ... then a low tone as you sweep across it.
A good target like a coin will be just the high tone ... a gold ring (or foil) would be just the mid tone.
Hope this works well on a sandy beach as I dont like to discriminate out those bottle caps in fear of missing something good.
Also ... the closer the target is to the coil the louder the tone is.

Guys, I know air testing dont mean much but this detector is very HOT in the air.
12" away and a nickle is a very solid hit.
Air tests about like a Tesoro Tejon ... hope that translates to extra depth in the ground or dry sand.

I plan to hit the beach in the morning and try out the AT PRO and a used Infinium on the dry sand.
If I have time I will get the AT PRO wet with salt water but I am not expecting a lot from it there.
The ACE 250 did suprise me by detecting a dime thru two inches of sand and three inches of salt water so who knows.

Greetings,

I have been out hunting with my ATPro. After doing some air testing I took it to a park and hunted a couple of volley ball courts. I was running the sensitivity at about 50%, Iron Disc. at 35 and the Notch Disc set to detect everything from mid foil on up. I used the Auto Ground balance to balance the machine and it balanced at 93. I hunted the first court in Std Mode and recovered several clad coins to a depth of about 4 inches. Nothing earth shaking since the detector functions pretty much like any other Garrett in the standard mode. The second court I hunted it in the Pro Mode. With the fast response of the Pro Mode I noticed that I was hearing more targets. I again found clad coins along with some trash targets, mostly aluminum foil and pull tabs. The deepest target was about 7"+.

My next site was a grass area that is next to the ticket gate of a ball field. It is a MEGA trash area. I decided to start hunting it in Std Mode. I left everything the same but I reground balanced and it balanced at 90. My first exciting target ID was a 85. I thought I had a quarter. It was shallow and when I dug it it turned out to be a flat rusty bottle cap. I remember seeing the video so I threw it back on the ground and switched to the Pro Mode. Sure enough when I swept over it, it no longer sounded like a good target. I then threw a quarter on the ground about 8" to one side and swept over it and it sounded like a nice clean high tone good target. I noticed several other iron bottle caps laying around so I hunted the area in the Pro Mode. Man was it noisy with all of the foil, pull tabs and iron bottle caps. I really should have turned the sensitivity down some more and maybe used the default coin mode. That might have reduces the noise from some of that junk a bit. However, I learned to listen for the clear tones and they would be good targets. The Pro Mode is going to take some getting use to, especially in trashy areas. However, I found good targets and came home with a handful of clad coins, quarters, dimes, nickels and pennies. Interestingly, I never dug another bottle cap. I did dig some foil, pieces of pop cans and pull tabs. I don't recommend trying out the Pro Mode for the first time in a high trashy area. It is a little scary.

God Bless and HH

Thanks Smitty for a nice description of your hunt. A lot of the programs built into the AT Pro, especially "Tone Roll" Audio and iron audio take time to learn, and when you do learn them along with their limitations, your good finds ratio to junk will improve.
