First and foremost, thanks to everybody on this forum for your support. I had a bit of a bad time after my ordeal and as I wrote many times last week, all of your support meant a lot to me. This is an email I sent to a buddy regarding the incident a few minutes ago. After I reread it I think it is fine as a followup for you folks. Sometimes everything happens as it should. I am NOT going to file the complaint only because a couple of folks told me this is not going to happen again and I believe these two guys.
I had myself pretty much worked up over the incident I described to you last weekend. I made some follow up phone calls on Tuesday and nobody seemed to be returning my calls. I figured it was the "good old boy" network kicking in. I had written my complaint which was in my opinion very damaging to the deputy. I was going to file it this morning but decided to wait until Monday. I'm glad I waited. I just got a phone call from the Chief of the Town Police where the incident took place. We talked for around 1/2 hour. In the middle of our conversation he said "I'd like to personally invite you back to the park to metal detect any time you want." He told me that there had been a lot of discussion in Town government about the incident and that the opinion was overwhelmingly on my side. He was very frank with me and said if one of his officers behaved like the deputy did to me that he would be reprimanded at a minimum. The young deputy who was present for part of the ordeal corroborated my story which restores my faith in the system. He also corroborated that the deputy was "out of control" at times. I also found out the Town Supervisor was a retired deputy and was also firmly on my side. I am elated and a great weight was lifted from my shoulders. This Chief is the kind of officer I admire and I told him I was looking forward to meeting him and shaking his hand. I had some help from my pal in the Sheriff's Department in my county. He is the Under Under Sheriff and is a close friend. He came to the bar last night and told me he had just met with the deputy involved and told him he wasn't much of a cop because of the way he handled a complete non event. My pal said the guy didn't have much to say. The two counties have a joint drug task force and my pal said he pretty much dressed him down as much as he could not being formally in his chain of command.
My faith in the system remains. Sometimes the little guy (and right guy) does come out on top. This is exactly how I wanted it to end. I still wish it never happened.

Yes I did go out today and found 79 clad coins for $8.01, a Namco token, a button, a tiny lock, and about 200 pop tops. Sorry, no pic.
