I decided to lay aside the newfangled machines yesterday snd hunt with the T2 using the new small coil. I went to a local park that has been hunted hard since the 60s. There was a RR depot on the site and a confederate hospital across the road, plus Sherman stayed there for an extended period, so it was a well know site that got pounded.
I get an occasional bullet or old coin but there are no good signals, everything is iffy, all the good signals were dug long ago... so you have to use the "black arts" of detecting. The T2 with the small coil is like a wizards wand...
I hunted a small area about 1000 sq ft. I chose that area because a few weeks ago I dug two Mercury dimes in the area. I was using the E-TRAC then. I hunted the whole area a couple of times with the ET and with the V3 and my friend hunted it with his V3 and F75 with an F70 coil.
So yesterday I got three lead RR baggage tags, a 1943-P war nickel, an unfired bullet with part of the brass still attached, a wheat penny, two small pieces of lead, and something metal that looks just like a partial for a dog... a canine and bicuspid tooth, I have no idea what it is. I also dug some nice iron relics but I knew they were iron before I dug them.
I was very surprised to find this much stuff in such a small area especially since I have hunted it hard recently. I have used the V3 with the 4x6 coil and roy used the white 6x10, (I think that is the size but anyway, it is the white elliptical coil).
There is another spot where I dug three bullets in the last few weeks, two chewed. I can't wait to try the T2 and small coil over there. I am very impressed!!
Also, I was able to run the disc on 5 and the sens between 85 and 90, 90 most of the time. It would only chatter when I laid it down or lifted it. I learned that with the F75 running JE mode... keep it swinging on the ground and it will stabilize, same with the T2 using the low disc boost and high sens. I was able to run the AM sens on 95.
I was digging every repeatable signal 56/57 and above except for stuff in the high 90s.
I like this coil a LOT.
Sorry I don't have pics but i'll try to take some later.
On another note: Someone else has been digging in the park and making a mess. There was one spot near the flagpole where the grass is green and full... they left a dirt spot about a foot wide and three feet long... I was embarassed. I hunt there a LOT and don't want to be blamed for this crap. I think I am going to talk to the local police, whom I know, and alert them to watch for anyone out there with a fullsized shovel. A young guy showed up about 10 days ago when Roy and I were there. He had just bought an MXT and wanted us to tell him where to find relics... He had his plump little wife in tow... she was carrying a fullsized spade type shovel. I tried to tell them how to recover and that they needed to get a Lesche tool and a small shovel... but off they went. They covered about 200 feet in 10 minutes, dug three or four holes and left... Alas, I think they came back. Why would anyone carry a shovel into a public park or into someones yard?
