Back with the Weekend's Finds. Only cost me a Fender and a Door! Part:1.

James N.D.

New member
I got out Saturday and Sunday to a New Site that I have researched about. Got there and started finding Wheats which was a good sign. I might have to do a return trip this next weekend but will have to see. On Sunday Night, I was on my way back and had a little run in with a Deer. The Deer was facing West and I was Driving North. I seen it standing in the Ditch and before I knew it, the Deer decides to turn around and charge my Van. I turned to try and avoid hitting the Doe but she had other plans. Next thing I heard was a big BANG as I headed for the side of the Ditch but managed to stay on the Road and stopped. I got out to see what damage there was and seen the Driver's Door caved in and the Fender buckled as well. I turned the Van around to see what happened to the Deer and seen it laying in the Road with her head up. I drove up to her and got out and she tried to get up but both of her Front Legs were broken. There wasn't much I could do since I was out on a Road that is only traveled lightly so I tried to push her from the rear to try and get her out of the Road. She let out a bellar when I did this so I left her alone. I don't Deer Hunt or even own a Gun so I had to leave her as she was until someone else came along and found her. I hope it was a Hunter so that they could put her down since I really had no way of doing it myself. I thought about my Lesche but it's not the sharpest tool anymore from all the digging. I seen 2 Bucks before this so I guess 3 Strikes and your out was the Scenario on this one. As I drove off, I did notice some Headlights coming from the South so I am sure that this person seen the Deer and either took care of it or called it into the Authorities or someone close by with a Gun. Anyways, Now I have to try and push out my Door so I can get my Window to roll down and get the outside Door Handle to work again. Probably going to need a new Fender though. Well! That's life I guess! Now onto the finds. I found another 13 Silver which now brings my Silver Total for the Year to 321. That's right Tim! I have the same amount of Silver as what you have had for a Personal Best. I am going for 350 before freeze-up! Time will tell. The Silver found this time was 1 Walking Liberty Half Dollar dated 1937-s, 1 Washington Quarter dated 1936, 2 Barber Dimes dated 1900 and 1911-s, 5 Mercury Dimes dated 1918-s (High Grade),1923,1924-d,1942-d,1943-d, and 4 Roosevelt Dimes dated 1946-d,1953-d,1957-d, and 1963-d. For Nickels, I found 6. They included 1 Liberty V-Nickel dated 1901, 4 Buffalo Nickels dated 1913,1917,1928-d,1935-d, and 1 Jefferson dated 1939-d. I ended up finding 7 Indian Heads also. They were dated 1864 (worn smooth), (2)1893,1897,(2)1901, and a 1903. Those are the finds for Part:1. Other finds coming up are the Wheat's, Canadians, and the Misc. that I found. There is a nice looking Mother Of Pearl Sterling Silver Ring in Part:2 and some other neat items. Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all. :detecting:[attachment 72889 DirtySilver.jpg][attachment 72946 CleanedSilver.jpg][attachment 72890 DirtyNickels.jpg][attachment 72947 CleanedNickels.jpg][attachment 72899 DirtyIndians.jpg][attachment 72948 CleanedIndians.jpg]

a hunter either and that would have been hard for me to see the deer like that...but you are right...there was nothing you could do.
Glad you were okay though and congrats on filling your pouch again.

I love your big silver, I still have not found a Half (suck), I have a silver dollar but no half. Maybe someday.
Do you just use jewelry cleaner on the silver?

Here is the rest of the finds once again. For Wheat Pennies, I found another 36 dated 11,15-d,(2)17-d,18,(2)19,(4)20,20-d,(2)23,30,33-d,(2)36,38,40-d,44,(4)44-d,(2)45,45-d,46-d,46-s,48,(2)48-d,49-d,53-d, and 55-d. Canadian Coins included 2 Pennies dated 1933 and 1948. There is a Close-Up of the 1864 Indian Head and the Sterling Ring. For Misc. Items, I found a Sterling Silver Ring with Mother Of Pearl, 2 Keys, 2 Blank Pins, a Watch Fob that reads on the back Implements of International Harvester Co. Of America Inc. Chicago U.S.A., a Brass Padlock that reads Eagle Lock Co., a Pocket Knife, a 12K Gold Filled Tie Clasp, Part of a Sterling Silver Locket, and a Pendant that reads U.S. Olymipic Drinking Team (Olymipic is what is on the item, not misspelled by me). Thanks for looking and Good Luck and HH to you all during the week.[attachment 72954 DirtyWheatsAndCanadianCents.jpg][attachment 72953 CleanedWheatsAndCanadianCents.jpg][attachment 72950 1864IndianHead.jpg][attachment 72949 SterlingSilverRingwithMotherOfPearl.jpg][attachment 72951 DirtyMisc..jpg][attachment 72952 CleanedMisc..jpg]

When they are Black or Grey from Water Damage or Fertilizer's in the Soil, Electrolysis helps remove this Crud and bring them back to what they should almost look like. For some, I had to use Brasso Cleaner to get the rest of the Black Crud off of the Coins. I don't like using any Polishes but sometimes it's needed. Your Half will come and when it does, don't be surprised if a 2nd one isn't far behind. Thanks for the response and Good Luck and HH to you.

didn't cause any more Accidents or get killed by a Vehicle hitting it. It was tough leaving her sit there but what else was there to do. I'm pretty sure the Headlights that I seen in the Rear-View Mirror definetly turned around so someone took care of it. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH to you on your next adventure out.

Really nice James.
That silver looks soooo nice!

And so much of it too...

It's a lot of fun when the Silver is plentiful. The Half was a shocker and didn't see it at first in the pile of dirt because it was so black. Good Luck and HH.:detecting:

That is a nice haul and it to bad you aren't having deer for dinner.Just kidding those deer are a pain in the a$$ .Their was nothing you could have done.I also found a old IH penny over the weekend 1865 in good shape. Why couldn't it been 1877 .Have a good one and good luck on your next hunt.

I took the Door Panel off and pounded out the Dent pretty good. The Window was hitting the Door Handle and that is fixed now along with the Door Handle on the outside. Only a slight kink in the Front Fender now and the Door looks alot better than it did. So if anything, the Deer cost me maybe some Door Clips for the Trim. Surprised that I got the Dent out of the Door but took about an Hour. Good to know that you found yourself an Oldie Indian Head also. Anything 1879 and Older is a big thing up here in these parts it seems like. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH on your next outing as well.

James,

I have to say I am impressed by your constant quantity and quality of finds! Is the ND for North Dakota?? I'm curious because I wouldn't think there would have been that many coins period there- nevermind lost!!

Continued success to you!

Jeff in Mass

Your not the only one that is impressed with the Quantity and Quality of Coins that I am finding. Every time out, I keep thinking "is this going to be the weekend that I get skunked" but somehow I just keep swinging my Coil over the Coins. I guess I am just one Lucky SOB like Rick(ND) always tells me. Thanks for the reply and Good Luck and HH.

It ain't got nothing to do with luck, sir. Suppose you were lucky when you did all that research, or maybe when you got to one spot that didn't produce you got lucky when you tried a different spot or maybe a different coil, and maybe you got really lucky when you started detecting that 70% grade hill, no one else was lucky enough to try. And I suppose it's real luck when you hold the tall grass down with your foot to get your coil two inches closer to the ground and therefore, luckily, find the coin someone else missed. No sir, I am not buying your luck story at all. Good luck to you, James.
