Backup Detector

Celtic Dragon

New member
I am looking to add another detector to my arsenal and I am looking to spend approx. $1000 to $1200. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Since the V3i is probably the best general use detector on the market, your "backup" should be some sort of "niche" detector IMHO. If you hunt a lot in trash, you might want a very fast recovery detector like the XP Deus or for a little more depth on high conductors, you might want a Minelab E-Trac of Explorer. If you just want to duplicate the general use capabilities of the V3i without all of the custom options, the MXT Pro would do great on everything from nuggets to high conductors.

The Etrac gets my vote but may become your main detector over the V3i. True turn on and go!

Maybe a used PI or waterproof unit.

I always think of a good novice/beginner machine as a good backup. Great for a "hand-off" machine too if anyone wants to join you.

Even though it's my main main machine I recommend the ATPro for 3 reasons as a backup machine. 1) Rain or hail it's waterproof their is no excuse to detect. 2) With the 5x8 coil sniffing out targets through iron infested sites is a breeze. (Iron audio). 3) You can pick up a mint condition ATP from $6-700 saving yourself up to half a grand. You can't go wrong with one of these machines.
Cheers!

3 very good reasons....and it's light. I went for the AT Gold as a backup for those reasons, and I'm covered if i go traveling to gold country.
