Backup to the E-Trac?

EZrider

New member
Hey gang
Just want your opinion on a backup detector. Its really hard for me to look at anything on the market. I think the ET i the best there is. As with everyone money is tight. I really don't want to invest in too much money on a detector that's going to sit in a closet 99% of the time. Ease of use would be a plus as it can be a loaner to a new person/friend. Somewhere around $300 mark. Should i hold out and keep my eyes open for used?

Find yourself a nice used X Terra 30/305, 50/505. By all means they should ease the pain of a doctor visit for the E Trac.

Thanks Jack. A used 303 was somthing i had in mind.

I have an SE Pro as my "backup". To prevent keeping one in the closet I use both regularly by using Etrac with large coil and SE with small coil.

That's my current backup, though it is collecting a lot of dust since I got the E-Trac.

Traded my F75 for my ET over a year ago.

I have 14 backups..........I think I need to go forward...........Talk about hooked......ahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!................(EXPLORER SE WITH PRO COIL!)

How about one of the first models of a Sovereign? Depth is right there with what you are used to on the Etrac and there is something about BBS technology which some say makes it run smoother/deeper than FBS machines in certain grounds. Otherwise I'd suggest a Whites M6 or MXT. I plan to buy an M6 as a backup to my Sovereign GT on days I want the more "friendly and lighter" feeling of a Whites. Mainly I'll use it for clad and/or ring hunting in trash, though it's never going to compete with the GT on deeper coins or gold rings unless the ground minerals are very low and even then I'd probably have to use a larger coil if I wanted near the same depth. If you plan to prospect too with it then the MXT, but the M6 has more tones with the same depth so it's better for rings/coins in trash than the MXT for me, and that's saying a lot because the MXT is one of the best gold ring machines out there, other than Minelabs.

I was thinking about a light weight back up myself. I'm torn between the tesoro tejon or vaquero. I'm starting to leen towards the tejon because of the depth. But from what I hear the vaquero is no slouch either!

I have an ACE 250 for my Etrac back up. $250.00 and its an easy detector to learn should you invite a new person or property owner to go detecting with you. I know it lacks in many areas but, for $250.00 how can you go wrong?
