Thank you all for the replies as for the stone it is small enough it would fall through ever screen door screen. My brother thinks he has one from some old jewelry if not I have some sapphires that size.
 
I think the stone if real is a garnet. Although it may be a synthetic. If thats a genuine ruby, you can buy a house with what that ring would sell for.
