I guess owning a ET is not meant to be. I buy a "like new" unit from a forum dealer. It looked brand new like I was told by dealer. I find that the battery is dead so I charge it overnight. It appears that the dealer may not have turned on the MD to see if it would work. Next day after loading a couple online user patterns I only have a short time so jump out to a school field. Notice its in TTF so go to switch to coin pattern. I hit the menu button and the arrow keys wont work and I cant navigate through the options. Cut it off and go home. Turn it on when I get home and it now works. Glitch? 2 days later I go to a field and this time it takes about an hour into the hunt I change patterns due to heavy iron. Arrow keys will not work. Call dealer and leave msg. No response. I send PM and he states later that evening by PM it shouldn't do this and he will get me an RA to return for repair. So 24hrs later nothing from dealer and Im getting pissed and cleaning out junk email folder and there is a email from the repair station for ML.. No msg from dealer stating to look for it and I almost deleted it. So on Friday I ship it. Sits in UPS truck and doesn't even leave town until Monday by tracking number. So much for hurrying up.
I hear from repair station on Tuesday evening and can't reproduce problem. I had recorded it and posted on my YouTube channel in case that happened. So get a text Wed. and he stated "problem found and will ship back to you today". I'm very happy at this point at the customer service I've received. On Friday I still have not seen a tracking number so I call and am told will check and get back. Nothing by late in day so I call. It will be shipped today and will send tracking number. Still nothing by late Saturday so I looking in junk folder and there it is. I was feeling good about the repair until tech doesn't do what he tells me to expect. It appears he repaired it and let it sit there for two days. I don't feel it would have been shipped Friday if I had not called and checked. Still a good turn around time. So I have had to sign for this when received and told that I would have to sign for this when shipped back to me due to price of unit by carriers. Well that didn't happen. I take the day off so I can be home to get a MD I have really wanted for a long time and saved hard to get. Around 5:30 I decide to check tracking number online and it states it was delivered at 1:29 and left on porch. No signature required. A 1500.00 MD and they didn't ask for a signature! I was sitting in living room watching Gettysburg at that time and I have 3 yappy dogs that bark at everything so I know it wasn't left on my porch. So call FedEx and they start a trace and since its after 6 nothing can be done until next day. I can only hope they find it and send it to me or I will have to go through claims and who knows how long that will take. VERY FUSTRATED at best.
I feel the dealer dropped the ball by not testing unit(may or may not have found problem but may have) not returning my calls or PM's and not making me aware he had spoke to repair station and to look for the RA. Repair station didn't ship when told or let me know it wasn't going to go until later and not requiring a signature for a package with such a high value. My Safari is down due to bad coil on it so I'm left without a MD and I hunt 3 to 4 times a week. I'm just sick. Lessons learned: Wont buy another used unit from a dealer(not first time I've gotten bad unit from dealer) and the glowing review the repair station would have got was lost due to a slack repair tech who set up expectations and didn't deliver on what he said he was doing. No names mention because I know it was not intentional by dealer and the repair station still had a good turn around on the repair. Will update you guys on this as it happens. HH JR
