Been Putting My Clad Coins In Folders

Like many of you I had a small coin collection when I was younger. With this in mind - I decided to put the newer coins that I found with my machine in folders.
Went to the local coin shop and picked up some Harris folders for Cents, Nickels, Dimes, Washington Quarters and State Quarters.
Just something to mess around with over the winter - there are (393) coins in the folders so far and I still have about a thousand coins (mainly Cents) to go through yet.

I don't keep clad.

Every day any "money" that is not gold or silver loses value. Since the late 80's, I've been using my found clads to buy silver dollars. The value of those dollars are now in excess of a whole lot of money!

Let's put it this way. I can pay cash for a new car if I want to. Not a cheaper car either.

Holding on to clad is not smart financially. But if you like collecting coins, then go to it!

Nice coin - and a good investment for your clad coins. I'm sorry to say you probably would not have seen much appreciation for your clad but I can assure you you will on that coin.

Back in the late 1980's I did a lot of that kind of investing with my new coins and a lot of my common silver coins. At that time Bust and Capped Bust coins in all denominations were not to expensive because there was a lot of rumors going around about counterfeiting of those type of coins in the early 1800's. Especially the half dollars.

Well by going around to coin shows I managed to purchase in excess of 100 coins, Mostly Half Dollars, but also dimes, quarters and half dimes over a ten year period. I got some really nice coins and at some bargain prices.

Starting in the late 1990's the counterfeiting became less important mostly because most of what they called counterfeits were almost impossible to tell from the real thing (there were so many different variety's put out by the mint as no two coin dies were the same as they were all hand carved.),and in many cases the counterfeits had better silver content then the US minted coins and were better excepted by the people , and those coins I got so cheap back then are now worth much more then what I paid for them.

I was always fascinated with the early coins and am now glad I made the investments as it will make a really nice legacy to leave my children and Grand children..

Yes, I agree - the coins I'm putting in these folders will never go up in value - I think I paid more for the folders then the coins are worth !
I've just always been a collector and I only put coins in the folders that I found with my machine.

You guy's are 100 % right - the old coins are a great investment and they sure are a heck of a lot nicer to look at !

That is a a nice collection you have started . Metal detecting and and coin collecting sort of go hand in hand . I have been collecting since the 70's and it has brought me a lot of happiness . Since most hobbies slow a little over the winter coin collecting fills in the voids .
