Been Thinking About A Deus....

Over 50 years in the hobby, used almost every detector made, how complicated is it to learn one? Have heard that they are brass button killers in iron as I'm just a relic hunter. Also refuse to pay over 1k on any detector out there. Have seen Gen 1 Deus for around $500, are they any good? Also, they just look flimsy and I'm leary of all of the wireless part of the whole concept. Would like less weight to use also. Long question I guess, asking the true relic hunters out there. Just want more results in all of the hammered camps that I have permissions on, thanks!

Swinging a Minelab on the beach for 20 years sure didnt help my shoulder, arthritis, tendonitis's, bursitis, and tennis elbow !!! You'll never regret swinging a Deus. Lightest top of the line machine around. You can make it even lighter by not mounting the control unit on the stem, just rod & coil. Im not a numbers person, so the control is in a pocket or around my neck if I want to check numbers. With the rod & 9" coil you'd think you were swinging a feather !!! There are multitude of combinations for the components. Since you are a relic hunter, you'll appreciate not having the cables getting caught in the brush.

Quality, I think when they first came out, there was a commercial of a car driving over the arm cuff, came out fine. Ive never had a problem with wireless connection, no lag time and the Deus 1 pinpoints smack at the tip of the coil. In over 10 years, I havent had any mechanical failures except the remote connector on the stem. There are many aftermarket connectors that are better. I'm a beach hunter and hunt almost daily year round. I've yet to have a problem with the batteries holding a charge. Even so, it was only $50 to change out one battery. I believe Deus has the best warranty with 5 years. Their service department is fantastic and turnaround time is quick.

As far as learning the machine, because Im a female, I always shied away from machines that needed 200 adjustments. Turn on and go and no meter was my mantra. But when the Deus came out, I couldnt resist. Plenty of video's on YouTube, Gary Blackwell has a whole series.

Now with the multi-frequency Deus 2, it is a horse of a different nature but still a solid foundation. When the Deus 2 first hit the market, it was a Godsend for me. Only the heavy Minelab's & Fishers worked in the wet sand,. It was Heaven on earth !!!

As far as price, there recently was a Deus 1 with 2 coils for $350 which was a steal. You have to check for usage on parts with the older machines. If lucky you might find one with some warranty but you must have the receipt.

Im sure the relic hunters will chime in with their experiences. For me, Deus 1 & 2, does everything I need except tell me when I have found gold !!!! :) :) :) :)

If you can find a closet queen Deus 1 a good price. Its a great starting point to learning the machine. If you want to jump into the fire, go doe a used Deus 2, I think there's one for sale now on the forum and it does come with warranty which is transferable.

I would say go for the Deus II with the WS6 puck. 799.00. Keep it charged up and you can be swinging in literally a minute after you have it set up to your favorite program where ever u go. Go for the 1” coil cause the new High Frequency 9”coil is in the release stage. I use mine almost daily and some days I go out twice. My coil stem lock is starting to weaken, but I use the wrist strap for the puck unit and it is great. Quality is there. My only gripe is the puck doesn’t have a back light and if I go out in the evening I take a neck light along. The pinpointer paired to the Deus is my favorite feature.

Deus II Cons You have to recharge the Coil, the Master, and the Puck.

WS Puck to me is useless except to power the Headphones. Get the Master Controller.

WS6 Headphones are crappy and hurt my ears. I use the Uniprobe Headphones that accept the Puck, which gives you an excellent Pinpointer, built into the Headphones. At $200 they are at a decent price.

Pros Everything is Rechargeable

I have no clue about the new HF Coil. I use the 9" standard coil and it is the perfect size. You will find a bunch of on End Coins you missed with other Detectors.

The MI6 Pinpointer works well with the Deus II but I feel the Uniprobe is a cheaper better option.

I have the WS6 Puck. You can choose your coil size before purchase. I bought a pair of August low latency blue tooth headphones and a low latency Bluetooth transmitter. Best sounding headphones I have ever owned and very comfortable. I got both for about $100, although I've read guys getting rebuilt ones from ebay for a fraction of that price. I could not be happier with the Deus 2 and the weight and ergonomics add hours to my detecting time. Great machine to hunt by sound, but also very good ID at depth. I found it much easier to navigate the menu and settings than my Eqinox 800. A real plus for me is it goes back to factory presets every time you turn it off making it very easy to experiment with settings. If you like the settings you have chosen, you can save the program.
