The ground is actually frozen here in Alabama. It has been a looooooong time since that has happened. We just don't get this kind of cold weather here for usually more than a day or two, but we've had it for a few days now, and I hear that it's probably gonna stick around for a couple of weeks. Heard on the weather tonight that it looks like we just might break a record set in the 1940's for consecutive days with temps getting below 25. It's supposed to be around 12-13 degrees here in my area tonight, and possibly colder tomorrow night. The BIG news, for me anyway, is that we have a 60% chance of snow for Thursday!!!!!!!! That almost never happens here, and when we do get a little dusting, it melts pretty quick because the ground isn't cold enough - - - but this time the ground IS cold enough!!! YEA!!!!! Just hope it happens! Seems like everytime we get our hopes up for snow, they end up taking it out of the forecast because our conditions are never just right. When I was growing it, it wasn't that unusual to get a few minor snows every winter, but that doesn't happen anymore here. Weather patterns changed for us in the early 80's. I know this doesn't mean a thing to you guys "up North" but it's pretty major news here.
Not as big as the blizzard that totally paralyzed the South in 1993, but it's still big. That blizzard is something I hope to NEVER see again. Probably a typical winter storm for some of y'all but it shut us down for almost two weeks. We aren't prepared, set up, or experienced for winter weather like that.
