Best Headphones To Use With An E-Trac ?

E-Trac-Ohio

Well-known member
I'd like to know what you experienced guy's think is the best set of Headphone's to use with an E-Trac ?

CONDUCTOR7E told me his Killer Bee's are great!

With several different models of Grey Ghost's and the other mfg.'s out there ... it gets a little confusing !

What do you think is the best set for the money ?

Thanks in advance ! - Mark

I moved over from the stock Koss UR-30's to Grey Ghost NDTs. The NDT cable is detachable and it includes a spare one for emergencies. I found the NDTs are better at blocking ambient noise than the UR-30's. The frequency response is specific for the purpose of metal detecting, so there's less bass and more variability in the higher frequencies. I think this is helpful for identifying the higher conductive targets. I did find that I have to keep the volume controls at max though, and wondering if a better impedance match with the E-Trac would give me more control over the volume.

I don't know about best but I have a pair of Grey Ghost and a pair of Killer Bees Wasp model. They are both excellent. At this time I prefer the Wasps.I like the
sure lock switches on the Bees.Other then that they are very close and both very good. The money is very close

I have the sun ray pro gold's they have excellent sound.
But they have been sent back twice in under a year.
Same problem twice Right at the plug.
They have taken care of the problem fast
But twice

I use Grey Ghost headphones. I have a pair with the volume knob and a pair without the volume knob. They both work great. I haven't used any other brands except the Koss phones that came with the detector.

been useing grey ghost ndt's for the last 7 years, first on an xlt then on an expII ,,work great for me. but in the summer i give them up for a set of koss walkman's because the grey ghosts make my head sweat to much. just got an E-Trac an am using them on it .

We talked about my preference of the killer b's,but I have heard nothing bad about the grey ghost ones as well.Apples and oranges,I guess? Both should be a dramatic improvment over the stock Koss set.Keep up the good work buddy,i'm looking forward to seeing some of your posts!

My 2 hunting buddies and I use 3 different headphones..........I tried the RAT phones they were durable but kind of Bassy..So I switched to Grey Ghost Deep woods (1),and Grey Ghost Ultimates(2)
I had the same problems with them (Right angle plug at the detector) and had to send my deep woods back in 3-4 weeks....They are starting to act up again at the right angle plug..If I had to do it over ...I would get the NDT (No Down Time) Grey Ghosts..
One of my buds uses an old set of KOSS sterio headphone with the volume dial on the cord.He swears by them....My other buddy...(GOIO) is a silver magnet with over 310+ so far for the year,& he uses Killer Bees..He says they are the same as the SunRay Pro Golds (Killer Bee makes the SunRay),but are 20* cheaper.... they are to high and squeeky for my hearing....
You talk to 100 detectorists you'll probably get 20 different answers..I think it is just personal prefference...I like Grey Ghosts sounds, but not their 90* $@$@ plug.

Thanks for all your replies on my headphone question !

ive been through Koss, ratphones, garrett and after using all those and talking with other more experienced hunters i finally settled on a pair of Grey Ghost ultimates and i havent looked back yet.
grey ghost seems to be the ones that mate with minelab like peas and carrots.:yo:
