Big Silver and even Bigger....

So I was able to get out for a few hours and hunt with some friends today. It was my first time hunting at this park even though practically everyone with a metal detector within 50 miles has hit it over the past 30 years.

The finds are few and far between and between. It's the kinda place that can be challenging cause you will dig a 1919 wheatie at 5 inches down, then 3 feet from that dig a 7 inch zinc, then 2 feet from that dig a 3 inch seated while trying to contend with a TON of top clad and trash.

Anyway, didn't find much for the first part of my hunt, a few wheaties here and there, I decieded to head back to the area where I parked and hunt there some more.

I got a bleep of a signal that caught my attention. I investigated it some more and was only able to get an ok hit from a small specific angle, the ok hit wasn't all that great, but something about it made me dig and I am sure glad I did.

As I pulled the plug I saw the silver rim.....I asked my hunting partner Joel to come over as I removed the clump of dirt that surrounded it (I knew I had a silver quarter, but I didn't know what it was at this point, like I said this place has potential for all). I was really hoping for a SLQ since I have never found one, but I wasn't all that disappointed to see a 1910 Barber peak thru in such good condition. :surprised:

As I stood there in amazment and BS'ing with Joel of how the signal hit so strange, we decieded to check the hole and hopefully it would paint a better picture.....WHOA...I hear something else down there....just then Joel says "if it's a half, I am kicking your butt". He helped me pin point the signal and out comes this gigantic iron bolt, the thing is litterally the size of my palm. The Barber actually overlapped this thing. It's amazing how the Explorer was able to even see it. I LOVE Minelab!

Thanks for reading - HH

What a sweet quarter cuz!!! It is amazing what the explorers can do, that rusty bolt is huge. I wonder how many others passed that up as junk.

Now that's a big bolt! Nice find

Really nice quarter - congrats. It's great how the Exp. can pick through the trash.

Fine lines on that one... about $150 coin. Looks like someone dropped that thing new.

I may just kick your butt anyway. She's a beauty Mike and you had to work those signals to get her. Our parks are hunted to death, but good hunters can always find something worthwhile. The nice finds are going to be the ones mixed in with the trash and masked by the iron nulling. The key is patience and knowing that they are still there waiting to be discovered. Your detecting skills are getting better every time out. You're going to have a good year buddy!

Wow what a find. I found my first silver quarter (1941) in my earlier post with the 2 silver halfs and I can't wait to find an even older one like yours. The condition on that one is in even better than my 1941. Congrats hit that park hard.

Not sure I'd want to be following you guys around too much... might have to try some parks up in the Cities someday though! Wow.

Thanks Joel. Your right about one thing, me believing you will kick my butt...I wouldn't mess with you man...why do you think I like to go hunting with you so much...I like to hunt the ghetto parks and people don't mess with us when your around...you're kinda like my mean mugged body guard

It can be depressing at times though because our parks have been pounded there have been more times than I would like to count that we have gone out on all day long hunts and didn't find a single silver and half the time that's with 4 guys hunting. Private property is where the future is. But regardless we always have a good time together, it's just nice when the detecting God's offer up a few nice ones once in a while.

By the way, PM me when you get a second, I got us permission to that old house I was telling you about.

Later,
Michelob
