Hi everyone,
I've been revisiting the 1876 home I found the 1895-S Barber and 1905 "V" from a couple of weeks ago. The last 4 hunts haven't produced too much other than 5 wheats (all in the 40's and 50's), a 42-S war nickel, some clad, and some costume jewelry.
Today, was a different story! The first half hour of my 2-hour hunt started real slow--nothing but junk (not even a zincoln). I had been working my way across an open portion of the lawn and was about 12 feet from the front walk when I get the sweetest, clearest, high pitch tone I've ever heard. It showed 93/94 in 12k, so I'm thinkin' "man, that's the cleanest sounding bottle cap I've ever heard--better check it in 4k just to be sure". I switch to 4k and sweep it again--"ooooooh... a super sweet sounding 89 showing half a right-sided horseshoe... I better be careful recovering this one!" I pop a 3" plug and zero in with the pinpointer. Two more inches of plug produces a beautiful 1942-S Walker--SWEET! For the next hour, I'm wondering around the front yard and end up recovering 3 memorials, but I don't care 'cuz I'm still smiling from the Walker. I work my way between two raised garden beds (a 2' path) and get another nice, clear 92 in 12k. I switched to 4k and the tone goes down, so my smile just gets bigger. I work my way down with the plugger and pinpointer and out pops the '34 Washington from 6". I'm thinking "this is my BEST day ever!" as I replace the plug and cover the hole. I rescan the area and to my surprise, about 4" away, another sweet, quieter, clear 91 in 12k. Another 6" of plug and I see the silver reverse of a '41-S Merc looking back at me. This IS my best day ever! A couple more feet down the path produces the Chinese coin. Based on what I could find online, it looks to be a K'ang Hsi coin minted (cast) at Ningpo in Chekiang sometime between 1662 - 1722.
What an amazing couple of hours! I love this hobby! I'm going back tomorrow!
Thanks for looking and good luck on your next hunt! ---Cladiator
