Birth of a control box cover

I will not bore You with a detailed explanation, You're smart guys, or You did not buy a White's detector!

Take r.

Question about your control box cover: won't the rain land on the top of the control box, then run off the edges between the control box and the cover and then collect in the bottom of the cover keeping your control box sitting in a pool of water?

The Thesaurus cover I have for my DFX covers the entire top of the control box so when it rains the rain never touches the top of the control box. Seems like you could do the same thing by making a top that has holes for the knobs.

Nice job !

Thank you guys.
Steve, it is clear that this one is not a rain protection and will not be used in rainy days. An analog detector needs continuos adjustments to work at its best, so you cannot put on a cover that is completely closed and waterproof, and if i make some holes for knobs waterproofing is gone...
So I think that a old clear bad will be the best cover for wet hunts.
Have a nice day.

i was smart and bought a xlt. i still don't get the benefit of this cover though. if it's to keep it off the ground or protect it from the ground then the pvc do dads someone else made would seem to work better. trying to understand is all. applaud the effort. Edison didn't fail the first hundred times. he said he found how not to make the light bulb the first hundred times. ( just used hundred but could have been more tried to quote from the movie nat'l treasure.). keep trying.
someone needs to come up with better rain protection. especially ones that fit the model of the machine one owns. not something made for the bigger machine and made to work on the smaller housing like white and garrett have done. i'd like one that fits nicely on my xlt.

Men did you ever have and use an XLPRO or a TDI? I guess not. With these machines you cannot use a closed cover. If you're in GEB/NORM in mid to high mineralized ground u have to ground balance very often, in each mode you have to check transmit power, discrimination, check batteries and so on. All controls are on box. A closed cover, as the one sold by white's is pretty useless, 'cause you should open it every time you want to adjust a knob. DFX, XLT, M6, Vision and MXT are different. You can close control box and forget it, because all the controls are on meter. I could buiild a removable top, i am not stupid as someone suppose, but it is pretty useless when it rains. I prefer a clear bag that let me see through to check and set controls. Sometimes it is better to think before speak...

thanks for the lead phil. as for you ,AKILLE68, thanks for the baggy idea. and no i've never owned any whites but my xlt. thus didn't understand your design. see my saying in my signature box.

I like it!
Nice work.
I can see ,for me it would be a great advantage, as i do get out in the snow (sometimes)
and sometimes its muddy.
And as far as rain, or even a mist, I'm like an overprotective father, a little bit of a freak i guess,
when it comes to my Mxt.
I see you all go out, but not me , LOL,
Besides, a mans gotta go fishin sometimes?
I have been thinking on making a cover out of neoprene, but now I think I'll go with your idea
I really do like it.
thanks for sharing,
Dusty

Oh, wanna hear somethin funny/sad
the reason I have extra neoprene.
Last summer, I had 2 pairs of Neoprene waders
1 pair didnt fit anymore, and the other pair were my GOOD waders, heavy duty.
I told my Girlfriend to go get my "brown" pair, (the Good pair were green "on the outside"")
and cut off the legs ,so she could use them as hip waders.
LOL, the Good pair were brown on the inside, and I had them turned inside out to dry.
Yep, she cut my good pair.
So, now I have a pair that doesnt fit ,and the scraps from my good pair.
So far ,ive made camera cases, but thats about it.
LOL,
take it easy.

I applaud your for your efforts as nicely done..Having said that Whites has some nice products to cover the box unit and keedp it off the ground..Heck anyone that knows me I try to keep my units like new and applying a light covering of car wax does wonders to protect the exterior. Even though Whites control boxes are made to help resist rain if a headphone is plugged in or the
small insert put in the female side of the headphone I would strongly suggest you get a used water machine for those times when rain is falling...lest your unit will be making a trip for repair as water and electronics don't mix..

Birth and now perfection, if you need one, let me know.

Again, this one is excellent on an XLT or an DFX. not on a XLPRO.

Hi Akille68, this XLT cover is made by a company in the UK called Thesaurus. they make a cover for the mxt that has a portion of the top that flips open to access the knobs.
haven't tried this type, so i can't speak for how well they do,or do not work. you have a good cover, justs need a top flap that you can velcro on, in the event you got caught
in a down pour.

Good Job,
