Bit of a Short Dream Hunt This Evening :surprised:

ot permision to detect this piece of property and headed out around 6 o'clock this evening. This property goes back to the 1840's or so I was told, but I wasn't really expecting to find much there since this general area hasn't yielded much.

First signal I get as I step onto property is a bit deep (6"- 8" range) and is ringing up almost like a quarter - nice clean hit in all directions. To my surprise out pops a brown disc about the size of a LC, but I cannot recognize the images. Showed it to my wife who just droped me off and she thinks she sees a date of 1830-something.....copper maybe?

After cleaning with a little soap and water there's an image of a turtle with a box on his back on one side and donkey on the other. On the donkey side it reads "I FOLLOW IN THE STEPS OF MY ILLUSTRIOUS PREDECESSOR". On the turtle side it reads "EXECUTIVE EXPERIMENT 1837 FISCAL AGENT". Turns out to be a 1837 "hard times" token is very nice shape with lots of detail....I saw one on the internet go for $460! My first token or coin from this era of the 1800's.

Two signals later in approx the same area, I get a shallow 4" cent-like hit.....figured what the heck and dug. Out pops a thin dirty disc and after dabing it a bit it turns out to be silver! I don't recognize the image either. After cleaning at home it turns out to be a well worn 1 Reale dated 1779! My first Reale ever and well into the 18th century!

I move to the front of the house and get a signal that only repeats along one axis, but I decide to dig. Out pops a huge copper disc about the size of a half dollar which turned out to be a nicely decorated colonial flat button with shank still attached. It features two concentric circles of dots with engraved leaves between them. My first colonial flat button!

Then get a junky hit in the pull tab area, but at this point I'm digging everything. Out pops an 1863 IH fatty!! Only my second fatty ever and this one looks to be in pretty good condition though crusted with a thin layer of green that seems to be flaking off.

I dug a couple of other "relics" that may have some promise too, but need to take a closer look.

Wife came back to pick me up after grocery shopping about an hour an a half later! I had a real difficult time getting in the car and leaving, but I'll be back there 4 sure! Sorry no pics yet, but will post some soon. :bouncy:

sorry erik i couldnt make out that address can you repeat it please?

Wow-what a hunt! Those are some outstanding finds. That is a nice looking Hard Times Token and I can't wait to see the other stuff. HH

Too bad you had to leave! Good luck on the return trip - sounds like an 'untouched' site with lots more goodies hiding. That token is sweet.

That is a dream hunt for sure! Congrats and enjoy the sweet dreams Im sure you will have tonite about what still might be out there!

Nice finds old friend.

I'm glad to see you out doing a little hunting.

Hope you and the family are doing well.

Sorry I haven't called you...I have just had an unbelievable amount of stuff piled on the plate the last couple few weeks.

PS: next time tell the wife to grocery shop a half hour longer.

That is an awesome find my friend

It was one of those rare times when I've had a chance to get out a bit lately....and nice to have the probably the best 1-1/2 hour hunt I've had with three firsts in one hunt! I'll give you a shout and we'll catch up on things. Best, Erik

It was exciting to find that nice 1837 Hard Times token as my first signal as I walked onto the property! The Spanish 1 Reale made it a great hunt. The Colonial flat button with shank and 1863 fatty were just icing on the cake. Three firsts for me in 1-1/2 hours.....doubt that will happen to me again any time soon.

Nice job sir. Those reale's ( I have had the luck to find 2 last year) are a serious rush. may be some capped bust silver there for ya....Really happy you found the goods!:yikes:

Yes, I remember your video -- that was on helluva set of finds you made with 2 Reales in one hunt! Mine is quite worn and came out of the ground quite dirty - wasn't even sure what it was till I got home - but finding Spanish silver finally was incredible! This Reale was only about 4" deep and I may not have dug it if I didn't find that 1837 Hard Times token about 5' away (fnny thing is that Spanish Marevedi cob I found last summer was shallow too). All in all a great short hunt for me that I fear I may never duplicate (youngest coing was 1863!) though I did unearth some interesting relics tonight which I'll post soon and an 1868 Shield nickel on a short hunt. Thanks again brother and hope to hook up with you this summer for some hunting!!
