Boring Clad?

In a short hunt yesterday, my Etrac found this clad coin. Have any of you found something similar, with gold plating? Must have been part of a necklace or something? Anyway, this is my first DOLLAR coin to find. The target read 1/48 on the ET. It must have been as deep as perhaps a half inch-or less. At first I thought it was a Mardi Gras medallion (these are common in S.E. Louisiana).

Sure it's gold plating and just not gold discoloration?

Resaon I ask is I have found dimes and quarters that had a gold discoloration to them. Hard to really make it out in your photo as far as the Gold color that is.

Awesome find just the same. Makes you wonder how anyone could lose such a large coin.

I heard a law inforcement guy say that the gold colored dimes, and quarters, and such were used in making meth, don't know if it's right, but seems like I'd seen it also on one of the forums sometime back. Ken-ks

Interesting VDI reading.....Ferrous 01.

There has been some interesting debate on the FER 01 issue. Some say it's DEEEEP iron and it wraps around from FER 35 to FER 01. Some people have made some nice finds with these readings though.
