Went to use my X-Terra 70 and found were the shaft attaches to the coil was broken .
Does anybody know if this will be covered by the warranty?

Thanks Joe

Yes, they will cover it, just got one back from them. Does it look like this? Contact: billb@minelabusa.com

morelic, your saying that ML well warranty one that is three years old. I broke the tabs off on my 10.5DD coil this summer and I didn't think that they would warranty a coil that old so I glued them back on. Damn, I should of called them first. oh well, my fix it job seems to be working so far.

Mine was only 7 months old, and under the new 3 year warranty...........

John(Tx), I used " Dow Betaseal One Urethane Adhesive " and the red cap primer. I think the primer number is " 5500d " or you can use Betaseal U-418

If you need to glue a x-terra coil let me know and I'll explain things a little better and tell you where you can find this urethane.

This is obviousely a common problem because my stock coil broke the same way! The attachements seem too flimsy and thin, if you try to tighten it too much they break, but if you dont tighten it enough the coil is very loose, I too had no idea that it would be covered by warranty and made repairs myself, I used a rugged cement/ glue and 2 vinyl washers, I attached the washers to each side and it worked perfect and its very sturdy, not too mention I can now tighten the coil correctly. My question now is since I repaired it will that void me sending it to Minelab for replacement? I should have asked BEFORE repairing it I guess because it seems that if you were to only add 2 more thin rubber washers it would be perfect.

I got my X-70 out today to go detect a yard and one of the ears had broken off my 3 kHz coil, right through the bolt hole and the piece above the hole was gone --- nowhere to be found ---so I have nothing to glue back on. I put my 6" DD on and went detectin' and found five coins but the oldest was only a '58 wheatie and it had been dinged and nearly cut through on the edge by a lawnmower or weedeater blade.

I noticed that my 6" DD has a lot thicker ears on it than either of my 9" coils. If they can make the 6" that way, why don't they make the ears on the 9" coils as thick so they will be stronger as well? Wouldn't make a noticeable weight difference.

with the extra washers you can tighten all you want and it won't break, I've tighened mine pretty hard and still going strong.....HH

Thanks for the info. I contacted minelabusa.com and they are aware of the problem and will replace with a new one if you E-mail your information to them.
I haven't received it yet but I will let you all know if it comes I hope they in proved yoke on the coil.

They replaced it, only after I sent mine in. Yea, they could do better on that design:rolleyes:

I've never had the ears break on a coil, I always add the rubber washers so it will be more stable but it's good to know what glue you used just in case it does happen. Thanks, John

Mark I just found my 9" stock coil ear broke and it is past three years. Where can I get the Betaseal U-418.

Treasurechic: Where did you get the washers and what size are they and do you have the part number if they were from a franchise like Lowes or ACE hardware. .
Did you put them on all your coils or just the one you broke.

Thanks;

Doug

Doug I don't know if you want to use the stuff I used to fix my coil, because I just broke my coil again today. I don't know what I'm going to use to fix it this time.

Does anybody have a 10.5 DD 7.5 coil that they want to sell, cheap, lol. Let me know if you do.

I wouldnt try the washer method, One of them broke, I got very frustrated but to my relief I called Minelab and since the coil is under warranty They told me to send it in for replacement, I admitted trying to repair it unaware that it was covered, It just goes to show you READ THE SMALL PRINT on your warranty! If something breaks dont panic. The washers were luckily easily removed ( I guess my repair job wasnt so great) and it just looks like a broken coil again. When I receive the replacement I will definately add an xtra washer to each side for stability.

I am going to try some acetone on some spare plastic. Maybe I can get it to bond together. I went to Lowe's today and got some 1/4" X 1 1/4" rubber washers to put on my other coils if they fit. I noticed when I put my 10" round coil that the ears were bending in a little and i don't like that at all. I'm hoping to try the washers tomorrow.
I don't know if I will be able to get one washer in each side or only on one side. Its raining to hard outside right now to do anything.
If any one else has any good Ideas on what could be used to bond the peaces together. I don't think any normal glue will work because of the stress in the joint.
