Since we were finally blessed with some rain and slightly "cooler" temps (It was only 84 today
). I made my way out to an old picnic area for some detecting. This place is about as far off the beaten path as you can get, so just about everything I dig there dates from the late 1800's to about 1925. The bugs were thick and the overgrown grass was thicker, but I managed a few nice finds. Total time spent hunting was about 3 1/2 hours and I ended up with 3 Indians (1865, 1888, and 1889) 2 Wheaties (1911, 1919D), a 1909 V Nickel and a 1908 Barber dime. I also found a small gold plated pin, and a gold plated back off a button which was made by Krementz.
As you can see the soil is not very copper friendly  The Indians were totally encrusted, but it only took about 60 seconds in boiling peroxide to destroy my hopes of one of them being a 1877
