Button ID help!

Found this today I am thinking its a rev war button but can't find anything on it site is 1722-1799. there are no backmarks.
 
Is it silver or aluminum? Aluminum wasn't discovered until around 1825. If it is from the time period you mentioned it will be either gilted copper or solid silver, aluminum will be later. Looks like a cuff button, check the site for the other half. I've seen some cuff buttons that are similar but they are on another metal detecting site and I can't link to them but here are the pics. I can post the google search that shows the topic I got the pics from. There is only one search result so it's easy to get to the right page.....
