Can anyone identify this Deus II find ?

I found this at a new permission yesterday. The best I can tell from the finds at this site it's early 1800s, the site that is. I think it is a sword or knife guard, but can't find a match online.
Can anyone identify it?

That is very interesting and in nice condition. I suspect you are correct on a sword handguard. With the design on it perhaps a ceremonial sword for a Fraternal society.

Very nice. Perhaps the handle from a fireplace poker?
I was thinking the same thing, but I've been told by several people it's a sword guard. Just haven't gotten an exact match yet.

Sweet find! Could it be a walking cane handle?

They are most likely correct now that I see a rectangle hole where a blade went through. I wonder where the blade is. Awesome find.
