Can anyone recommend a solution? Or a good long handled shovel with a wooden handle?

I have run into a bit of a problem with my favorite detector (My E-trac) and my favorite shovel (The Raptor from Predator tools). They're both outstanding units on their own and together, but apparently 3's a crowd! When I use the 12X15 SEF coil the detector picks up the shovel at the end of nearly every other swing. (Even when dragging the shovel behind me with my left hand).

Has anyone else had this problem? If so was there a reasonable solution other than longer arms? I also tried keeping the shovel over my shoulder, but that's even more uncomfortable that dragging it behind me. I am considering cutting the metal handle off the Raptor and adding one made of Oak or fiberglass. Any better solutions other than cutting apart my poor shovel?

I use the Predator Dixie (field hunts) and have not had that problem, you could make a strap sling for it and carry it on your shoulder with the shovel behind you.

I have a wooden handle on my sand shovel for the beach and there is no problem when I drag it. If I carry it I get the "false", so maybe changing the handle will work? I would explore every other option first as cutting the handle off sounds too drastic to me.
