Can someone explain why glancing at the meter is out of the question?

I always felt sorry for you poor schleps with bad dirt, didn't know I was one of them. As for the machine kicking way down in auto to 10 and such, maybe that is the correct place for it, for that situation. I know when I was out in the Catskills with 2 SE's in August, I couldn't get depth for nothing because the soil was way too irony and the targets to trash dense.

I was thinking when they finally cut the corn and beans out here, I might have an easier time, because I would be digging everything 20 ferrous and above, considered using two tones myself. Hey Bob, were you getting nails hitting in the 1-31 to1-40 line? I am not liking that and am really hoping it's a fluke to my machine only and maybe, I could send it back and have it fixed, let me know what you see. Not a whole lot of guys have these yet, so info is sparse, even when I talk to ML. Here's hoping you find something nice this weekend. HH

Now we just need to figure out what to do next to the road where the modern trash sneaks in. We got pounded with rain today here, so I am thinking, I should start seeing much better results.

That was the main reason why I went to 2 tones. If I can't have my silver come in high pitched and sweet then I sure don't need nails doing it.

which would have been target size - I know this is somewhat related to depth as they assume a certain constant target size - that's why a small piece of foil near the surface wiu read deep and big old flattened aluminum cans can fool you. I would have like depth and size separated and reliable if possible. What do you think?

Try that audio long setting or smooth, if you can stand it. When my Etac starts chopping the signals in heavy trash and me using lots of discrimination, that seemed to help, the accepted tones are longer and the nulls stay the same length, which helps me a bunch. If I could get the depth at the same time I would clean up, maybe in your soil, you can:cheers:

No I didn't. I didn't read much of anything that was written until I got my ET in my hands.
I wanted to make my own analysis before I was tainted.
I don't see how 4 tones can help. If they had given the coin slot F12 the high pitch then yes, it would make sense. It would be progressive.

I will give it a try if the rain lets up a little more.I can stretch the se cover on and the rain coat is in the car.Speaking of car I need to take a picture of my detecting car and post .I have a 05 Mustang and a F 350 crewcab 4X4 powerstroke and the wife drives the Mustang and the pickup was eating me alive on fuel cost so I bought a little 1988 Plymouth wagon with a 4 cylinder for $800.00 .Now I can afford to go hunting a lot more and further away.Kinda funny a $800.00 car with a over $4000.00 worth of machines in it but I ain't chasing women just loot.:minelab::fisher: ES, Etrac and F75 and 3 probes and a .357 in case anyone gets the wrong idea.

Andy, would you say that the ETrac has better see through capabilities than the previous Explorers if you weren't using dense trash settings? Is that "see through" capability contingent on the dense trash setting? The reason I ask is that in all metal, the manual says that the dense trash setting has no effect anymore. You may recall an earlier post of mine where I was able to pick up a quarter IN a bag of hot rocks and a bag of coal slag the night before but couldn't repeat it the next day. I may have been in all metal the next day and therefore the trash density setting never kicked in???? Does that sound feasible? That would explain a great deal and is probably some very important info for guys hunting in trash with this thing. But back to my original question, which is: do you think that the new ETrac, because of it's faster processor and changed algorithms, is better at see through capabilities then the previous Explorers even in all metal???

Yeah, I am driving a F350 crew, 7.3 diesel and a Excursion 7.3 diesel. I should definitely get some little 4 cylinder rust bucket. Probably pay for itself in 2 months:rofl:
You know what I don't get, is in the 80's, there were cars that got like 45-50 miles to a gallon, today even the go carts only get 25-30. I guess even the go carts are heavier for safety reasons, because guys like us are driving Abrams M-1 tanks:stretcher:, and they took so much sulfur and lead out of the gas it just doesn't give the same mileage per gallon.

I'm probably doing something wrong...

multi tones is broken down into smaller segments, where 4 tones take in a much larger area.
If your button fell on the high side of all those tones it would be higher. in 4 tones, it's still in the one segment.
Oh my Lord, do i know what I'm trying to say:rage:

You are hitting on part of the E-Trac's "tricks" if you would . . . . . the TRASH DENSITY (High / Low) needs to see some disc in order to exhibit the see thru

Mind if I try that too? The place I hunted today was the worst ground i've ever been in. I have always hunted the SE in normal except occasionally in pitch hold. I was practicing today in my 'garden' and used the long some. It made for a little difference between a square tab and a cuff button. Pinpointing them in "sizing" helped to tell a difference between the two also. Have you tried switching your pinpoint to "sizing", it may help id nails.

like they were using in the Video where the E-Trac did do well with the nails. Just a thought. Maybe the filtering is set up different in Relic Mode and it is not just a different Discrimination Pattern. Just a thought! Hope you find a way to get it to work. It's sounding more and more like the SE is a better choice!

Switch the pinpoint to "sizing" and pinpoint in digital. I'd really be iterested to see if you think it helps with ID, I think it does.
