Of the minelabs I owned the Xterra 70 was first then the 705 and then the safari and was thinking of another minelab.
the 705 prospector mode is incredible and the safari with the programs and changing iron sound to low and coins to high
I liked that detector
could you rank for me the - Is the Etrac still the king
etrac
safari
se pro
explorer ll

I own an Etrac and an Explorer XS, had an EX II and a Soveriegn Elite. Out of all of these Minelabs the Etrac is my Favorite but I gotta say, it doesn't matter what you own in the high end detectors. The one that you learn the most from and are the most comfortable with is the best one for you. Many guys here on these forums will tell you that the cost of the detector means nothing if you don't put the hours in to learn it and then there's the fact that some people just can't make it "Click" with a Minelab and all those crazy sounds.
I would recommend the Etrac but only if you have the time and patience to learn it.

Of those listed, I would say the E-trac. But, I have found that the Excalibur is also a great land machine. I have owned several Minelab machines (E-trac, Explorer, Excalibur and Excalibur II) and I always go back to my beloved Excalibur. It works the land great and the water fantastic. Just like a frog, it can go almost anywhere. The water for me is where I pay my machines off the fastest and find more quality finds. That of course is just my experience and others may have different opinion.
I find that the E-Trac and the X-Terra 705 work for me when hunting coins, I find coins with ease with either.
Now gold on the other hand is another thing, I've not found any for 2 months with either, not sure as to why. I can find silver with both, both scream out when silver is detected.
I think I got to do (make) another test garden with some gold in it to get the feel for the sounds again.
David-----With the exception of the Safari, I have owned/used all those detectors on your list.-----Until the advent of the Etrac, the Explorer 2 was my favorite of the group.----Now it is the Etrac (hands down) & for several reasons.------The bottom line is, they are all fine detectors that you listed & I don't feel you could go wrong with any one of them.-----IMO though, King Etrac wins the prize! ---------Del
