Can you see the meter cleanly, if it is mounted on the lower rod of the straight shaft?

best place to mount is near the hand grip and it will be ok.

I use this...

Thanks for the help.
David sure does have some good mods. I'm tossing up as to whether the straight shaft or the older S type of shaft would be better. I'll also have to play around with a Sov, just to check out how I feel about it's nulling on iron and response to coins around iron. If I'm happy with that, then there will be a Sov in my arsenal again soon. I was new to the hobby the first time I bought one and was too ignorant of it, and metal detecting at the time.

You'll love the sov if you take your time to learn its language.Really its a turn n go machine but its incredible. With the tone ID and a meter for a secondary opinion along with some go as you learn techniques you will avoid a lot of deep iron.Good luck with it.Here is my set up,as you look down to the meter the numbers are very visible.Go with the straight shaft but I suggest that you get one with the hand grip tilted forward a few degrees. but not to much of an angle.Reason I say this is when my hand is straight in line with my forearm the tector tends to float a bit causing wrist fatigue because you will have the tendency to push your clenched fist downwards to apply pressure for the arm cuff to fit tighter against your upper forearm.Hope this is clear for you.

G'Day Mark, Could you please tell me with all the cordage on the different items, ID Meter and Sunray probe , are they long enough for you to mount the control box on a belt around your waist, at the back (over your bum). The reason I am asking this is because I have an Explorer, and the weight is getting me down. I used to have a Sovereign Elite and belt mounted the control box, and that left very little weight to swing. I have been thinking about going back to the Sovereign GT with a probe and a meter but would only do so if I can back mount the control box. Thanks, Bob

I use to hip mount my sov but i find it impractical, when you bend down to dig a target the control box gets in your way and dirt will get on the top of your control box.Or maybe its cause the beer has grown my belly LOL.This year I didn't even bother hip mounting and I like it better. If you mount in on your rear I would find that to switch the control or do any other adjustment a bit more awkward. If you do decide to hip mount make sure that you leave enough slack at the box connection so that your cord doesn't work from side to side causing it to break an internal wire.Make a loop at the connection.Hope you understand my reasoning.

Is anyone using this guys straight rod. It looks decent and you'd have no problem seeing the meter.

Thanks lovepulltabs.
I noticed that there was a handgrip there where the meter could be mounted on. That would make perfect sense. It's good to know that there is aftermarket gear out there that will improve the Sovereign.
