Captn_Se....would you have a way to share some of your videos of sounds while hunting with the SE?....

There have been a few guys who are wanting to hear some recorded sounds over targets that are deep, in trash...etc.

I have no interest in doing so because I felt too many people would expect to hear the exact same thing each time they hunted....and it just doesn't work that way.

If you give someone your settings and they don't make super finds...they get frustrated.

If you let someone hear what you hear when you hunt...and they don't hear that same thing when they hunt...they get frustrated.

Trying to explain to someone that even using different headphones than you are.. can change the tone of the sound you hear also gets frustrating.

Anyway I just chose not to because of many the variables involved...but some feel it would help them...and I'm all for that.

I'm just not doin' it:biggrin:...and for the reasons stated:)

I have always enjoyed your posts and how you explain targets always sound different depending on what's mixed in...or close to the target...and how you need to be able to sort out the jumbled sound to find the silver hidin' in there.

I loved watching the videos you made...and hearing all the different flutey sounds come out of it over deep iffys.

It helped me realize even further...all the different possible sounds the SE can make over deep coins with different variables figured in:thumbup:...'cause it didn't sound exactly like what I was hearing over deep iffys.

That showed me even further that I needed to tune in my ears for many unique sounds that were possible.

Forum member Bazooka had a video posted that was a good one of a deep wheatie a couple of weeks ago.

Sorry for putting you on the spot my friend...and if you don't want to...not a problem.

Just thought I'd ask:beers:

Don't want to fuel the fire that's burning about this subject... just my $.02. I think some recordings of deep sounding targets (from someone who's experienced and knows what they are) would help IMO! I know I did get a lot out of Captn_SE's videos (and others) because of the sounds recorded and his explanations before he dug. Even the changing sounds of the Sun-Ray probe as he got closer to the target helped me understand a little better of what to expect after the plug was out. Anyway, it did seem to help me. And I have an E-Trac! :surprised:

With that said, it really is just a matter of practice with YOUR machine in YOUR particular situation. All I know is that I can "hear" better now that I have a couple hundred hours, AND more than a few hundred holes dug on the E-Trac! Funny how that works!

You're not fueling any fire.:beers:

I was merely stating the reasons as to why I chose not to do it.:)

As long as people understand that they probably won't hear the exact same sounds...but something similar...it can really help them out.

If they think they will hear the exact same thing...with all the variables involved...it could confuse them instead.

What you responded above is exactly how I feel...and I quote you... "With that said, it really is just a matter of practice with YOUR machine in YOUR particular situation. All I know is that I can "hear" better now that I have a couple hundred hours"

I couldn't have said it better myself....although I thought I did:)

There are tons of great videos out there...Dan's being one or a few of them.

That was my point I was trying to make when a few kept debating it..."the sounds everyone is looking for are already out there"

Captn SE's videos. Can someone post a link to them or send me the link in PM. I think a lot of people would like too see them too. It's no secret that this guy is a silver magnet, and I would love to hear some of his targets that turn out to be deep silver. Personally I think video is an awesome teaching tool.. Thanks , God Bless, LaDigger
BTW ,Awesome pile of silver Captn SE. Great motivation !

I'd appreciate the link as well. Went looking for some on youtube after Bryce said they were already available. I didn't find many on the you tube site that could have worked as a learning tool. Maybe I just don't know how to find them. Any help will appreciated and used. Thanks/// Jim

Sweet videos buddy!! I didn't get a chance to watch them all but i will!!!

Im off to bed!!!

:goodnight: Everyone!!

Okay Bryce. Here's a list of all the videos Jon and I made. Use them for enjoyment or for learning your Explorer if you want. Just remember....the tones you hear in my videos are just that...my tones. They're a product of my Explorer settings, ground conditions, coil size, swing cadence/speed, etc. The sounds you hear on your machines may be slightly different, depending on all the conditions I previously mentioned.

I know the videos helped me in my first few months learning the Explorer. Once you get past learning the basics on how deep silver reacts in different situations, it all goes out the door as you all state. So yes, they do help us new guys understand the basics on how different those deep silver targets can sound. They are also a joy to watch for the entertainment too!

Did my post disappear? Bryce, you seemed to respond to it, but I can't find it...

My question to Captn SE (Dan) was "What settings did you have on your machine for that piece of ground to make those flutey sounds?" I can hear those sounds with an air test of a Mercury or Roosevelt dime, and by making very small setting changes, I can make those dimes sound almost like nickels. I presume you weren't at factory presets???

Dan,

Here's the settings I use that affect tone. I never have changed these once I set them over a year ago.

Gain: 8
Variability/Limits/Volume: all Maxed to 10
Threshold Tone: 5 (default on SE).
Audio: Normal
FAST/DEEP: Both OFF.

Captn SE (Dan) -

Sensitivity??

It looks from one video that you hunt initially in Smartfind, is that right?

I presume iron mask is off?

Great videos I watched them all. This is a great crash course for a beginner. So you whiz around like that with both Fast an deep off? I was reading posts from 2004 and fast/deep debate apparently has been going on since the explorer came out. Nothing beats the captain's enthusiasm though,

"SILVER!"
You belong on TV man.

I guess I want to hear "them" tones scream at me:crylol:

I also run conductive sounds....but I know you do too.:)

Dan,

I forgot to add one critical setting that affects the tone on conductive targets. It's the "Sounds" setting. I use Conductive settings while hunting in the turf.

I didn't list the sensitivity setting because that doesn't have any impact on the tone....just the depth. However, if you're interested, I use a manual sensitivity setting between 22-24 with my 11" Pro Coil.

Yes, you noticed that I'm using the SmartFind screen. I have created my own unique discrimination pattern. It looks just like an iron mask 27, except I have an additional pixel (just 1 pixel) masked out in the upper-right most corner of the display. This greatly helps to silence the highly mineralized ground and hot rocks that are in my hunting sites without missing any silver coinage. Without that pixel, the repeated high-pinging can really tire one's ears.

Actually, that one video where you see me moving around looking for a deep target was a practical joke. I was just having some fun that day. I normally let the ground conditions predict my swing speed. If the ground is real trashy (which it generally is in my area), I swing at a snail's pace.

I have tried both the FAST and DEEP filters. I have found silver while using either one of these settings, however, I prefer to detect with both filters OFF. The DEEP setting doesn't make the machine go any deeper. I have found it to actually delay the response that you hear from a deep conductive target. When you swing over a deep target, it will take some extra processing time for the machine to register acknowledgment of the target. I don't like this delay. I don't like it when you finally hear the tone after your coil is 2-3 inches past your target. As for the FAST setting, I don't like the "digital" sounding tones the machine makes on deeper targets. It's too short and choppy for my taste. Sometimes you can barely hear the short chirps your machine makes on deep targets while using the FAST filter. If you swing your coil over the ground slow enough, you will be able to hear the deepies right next to iron and other trash targets.

I could not get a few people to accept that...no matter how many times I typed it and explained it.:)

With your post...and you doing your best to give them advice about learning their own sounds... everyone can benefit.

They can hear some of the many sweet sounds silver makes by watching your videos...yet learn to listen for their own sweet sound over each unique target.
